So is 7106 or 7077 better?
-
I've read they are both the same builds, just given different numbers by microsoft, i'll try and find the article.
-
I also read something similar. It said they're based on the same core, parallel builds (whatever that means) with minor modifications differentiating the two and they're targeted and released to two different groups of testers.
I'm just going to wait for the RC; it can't be too long now. -
I heard that 7106 is faster, and it's supposed to be 7076. It's funny how they branched off into two branches for the RC and winmain build.
-
7077 is supposed to be the RC Escrow. I'm downloading it right now since my 7057 decided to stop working with my school's network. And the incompetant technician only gives support for XP-based computers.
-
Lol my school IT team would love to help as they love everything that is new and shiny
-
A good read
7076 and 7106 are the same builds. 7077 is the RC escrow, code frozen. It's in beta testing. 7105 is the same but not code frozen, it's the one that they are working on right now and will become the RTM -
Your post is much more succinct and contains none of the condescending tone of the article you link to. Thanks, +rep.

just installed 7077 64 bit and looking good with latest nvidia driver from laptopvideo2go.
liking the start-up and shutdown times already, will see how much changes when i dump my usual progs on there
-
Bein on 7077 since yesterday's evening, so far liked 7057 a bit more. It's probably like Vista though, times will stabilize in a few days.
-
So... he's incompetent, how exactly?
Because he can't fix the same thing you can't fix? Weird.
I mean, it's a beta, how can you expect him to be already able to fix it?
Sorry for getting off topic guys. -
He actually refused to even try. I had to convince him that 7 had the same kernel as Vista.
I can give you many exemples, it's not only related to 7. I had a problem connecting to the network under Vista. He told me "Vista sucks, use XP"
The computer vendor at the COOP is the one people actually go for service -
yeh i dont get why you bring a beta OS to a tech to "fix".
-
I actually never brought him anything to fix. I didn't even saw him for the network problems on 7.While I was on an early beta this automn, I went to see him so he could install me the novell suite so I could get access to my network's space and printers. He refused to install Novell saying it wasn't supported by 7. He really was on the defensive and the other tech was laughing at me for using another OS than XP/Ubuntu. Well, I ended up doing it by myself and it worked.
Well, the network continued doing this to me on 7077 and under Ubuntu 8.04. I re-got internet access 2 hours ago. -
Recently tried to download bd 7077 from a website which consisted of four 950 mb ISO files..., but found that the 2nd file was corrupted and could not be salvaged.
Anyone know of a site where I can download a newer bd than 7048? Preferably bd 7077 or newer in 32 bit.
Thanks.... -
Torrents or a msdn subscription.
-
Downloaded one off of PirateBay and burned it to a DVD.
Will be doing a full install later today..... on a P530H. -
Been hearing about a 7083 and 7110, are they real?
-
RC released to MSDN & TechNet, public May 5.

Nice! I'm eager in anticipation in getting it. I think two drops of pee squirted out when I saw that info.
EDIT: 2000th post! -
What's the build number of the latest RC released to the MSDN?
-
I believe it is 7100.
-
So I guess it would have the newest modifications when compared to the others, 7077 and 71xx?
-
7083 will probably be the RC and 7110 the next build of the going-to-be-RTM branch.
The important thing to know is that the future 70XX build will have the same kernel as the current 7077, it's going to remain untouched since it's the RC. 7105 and up will continue to evolve. -
If I upgrade to the official RC (7083/7100) next month, then it would be exactly the same as 7077 I assume. These new branches got me off track, but I understand now. Thanks for the explanation.
-
Kernel-wise it will be the same, but some major bugs or problems could be fixed. I just hope it doesn't do like Vista. Vista RC2>Vista SP0.
-
Cool, looking forward to the new builds.

....May 5.

Can anyone confirm this? -
Has anyone else had 7077 die on installation on them?
Is there a working version of a fingerprint logins (ala digital persona) for ie8
I'm currently @ vista ultimate rc 2 with everything working except smartmenu but I can't get 7077 to complete and install on mb hdx 18. -
Last night I completed the installation of 7077 32 bit on my Sony P530H.
The installation went fine.... and the speed that 7077 reacts if much better than 7048.
The only problem I have had so far... is that when I tried to play a DVD with Windows Media Player... the computer locked up...
Loaded in VLC Video LAN 0.99 which played the DVD without a problem.
Needed to reload a few drivers, but otherwise 7077 works fine... -
I can confirm that the Windows 7 RC will likely be available on May 5. I am currently a Microsoft Registered Partner, and I did see the fact that non-MSDN and non-TechNet subscribers (a.k.a. everyone else) should be able to get it on May 5th. I was exactly on the page that the Windows 7 News screenshot showed (Microsoft Partner Program website), but it seems that the page has been taken down and reverted back to the beta information.
-
On the contrary, it seems that the Windows 7 RC will actually get pushed back 1-2 weeks.

I should cut back on my caffeine intake

Looks like the RC (7100) started leaking on the torrents. There are a lot of fakes so be careful (for those not wanting to wait) but I've come across at least one (x86, not x64) that looks very legit (based on comments and images from numerous installers).
No rush here, I'm just going to wait for May 5th. -
I've installed this build.
-
Okay I want to remove the current build of the beta I have on my laptop in preparation for the RC that MS will be releasing soon....
How exactly do I go about that? And will it cause problems for me down the road when I want to download the latest build? -
I think that you can probably upgrade from beta to RC or RTM.
-
Yeah but I've heard stories from people who had issues when they did that...
I want to do a fresh/clean install of the latest beta build. So if you can help me with removing the previous beta that would be great... -
Well you can just format the drive you currently have the beta installed on or if you have enough space you can install in the same drive and the previous installation will be moved for deletion inside a folder, but I don't recommend it.
-
Eh? During the installation of the new beta, you just have to format the current partition and install it over...
-
Which one do you not recommend? The latter option?
Formatting should be safe I would think.... -
so I finally got RC 64 and 86 if you have a membership MegaShares, or megaupload and would like a single link PM me, however if can find the torrent just by doing a search on google.
-
I recommend to do a format, as it will eradicate the previous version completely.
-
Windows 7 RC First look
-
I wish you had told me that when installing the new beta it will give you the option of deleting the old one. That would have saved me a whole lot of time...
Anyways I was able to stop the computer from formatting it (thank God after all the work I did to get it on my laptop).
Currently looking for the RC right now. -

dang. just installed 7077 and this thing came out. lol.
7077's also stable
-
It's already known, but on Microsoft's Windows 7 Blog they just posted the timeline on the release of the RC. April 30th for TechNet and MSDN Subscribers, May 5th for the rest of us.
http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/04/24/windows-7-release-candidate-update.aspx -
In that link they have both the RC1 MD5 and SHA1 for x86 and x64, so now everyone can get them from P2P and rest assured that it's the real thing. Only thing missing are keys.
