That's right, actually it is the entire point of that download, for administrators installing it on multiple computers.

I got it, it works like a charm
-
How long does installation take ?
-
-
40 minutes.
Installed onto Ultimate 32 but only after removal of all non-US language packs.
Works nicely.
WEI did not change. -
Well, it just finished installing from the standalone installer (took about 1.5hrs).
The following few reboots have been a little slower, but maybe that will subside....... -
Last I remember, when I tried the Vista SP1 Release Candidate, it took me almost two hours on my horrendously outdated desktop... -
CoreDuo 7700, 2GB RAM 7200rpm HD -
Is anyone else also not seeing this on windows update? Mine says "your computer is up to date" and I"ve refreshed it several times... How come when others have already downloaded and installed it through WU?
-
yea mine doesn't show it - that's why i'm downloading it
-
-
Just finished installing from windows update. It took longer than I thought to download 69mb maybe it was checking the current install to see if I had all the updates.
-
SP1 didn't show up in Windows Update yet so I'm downloading the installer from MS @ 3600 KB/s
00:44 remaining... -

I think most of the rest of SP1 relates to stability and playing better with third party drivers.

window vista sp1 is already available in window update 69.2mb
-
Installed. Took almost one hour. Everything is smooth. It seems everything opens more quickly. It might be just placebo, don't know.
-
Well I'm downloading the standalone as well as for some reason I just can't wait....
Seems a bit of a waste of bandwidth for MS to release the standalone, but not have it on WU for everyone. -

Just installed through Windows Update and took a few moments to install.
Initial impressions are about the same as before, but there's one weird thing though, my torrents seem to be downloading at full speed now - before they constantly had problems connecting to a tracker and I didn't even fiddle with the firewall settings -

I noticed the same thing. And had the same question: was it real or the placebo effect. I wonder if anyone who is about to install SP1 might want to measure how long it takes to open up a few different apps and then see how long it takes to open them after the sp1 to see if this is real or not.

Downloaded Vista SP1 X86 stand-alone in 20 secs 434MB.
-
Hmmm.. Just installed these, and I haven't noticed any performance boost.
-
is there a difference between this standalone with the one that you can get earlier through registry?
-
I had a small problem sometimes: when I gave the shutdown command it got stuck at the "shutting down" screen. I had to press the power button to properly shut down the laptop. Of course after I powered it up again the "Start Windows normally" screen appeared.
I wonder if after SP1 the problem persists. -
-
good read, reason for the delay
-
I dl'ed and installed SP 1....I'm not sure, but I think I actually have more space. Is that possible?
And I checked to see if my computer needed to be defraged, and it goes
"checking disk 1 of 3 (?\\volume....), checking disk 2 of 3 (?\\volume...), checking disk 3 of 3 c:\"
This never happened before...Is that normal? -

nekrosoft13, actually this build is the same as the one released earlier at TechNet and MSDN. They've done nothing to change it and they surely didn't advertise to people that pay for their subscriptions not to install SP1. Microsoft even released pre-build copies of Vista with SP1 a month ago (give or take a few days).
That guy @ WinSuperSite is a Microsoft fanboy and I wouldn't take his word for anything in the world (for his "exclusive" news). He usually tells people what they already know. This driver problem is well known for a month or so. -
I posted that article because that seems like the reason why they delayed the release from January 25th to March 18th.
Final SP1 was build in January 18th. -
Its still not showing up in windows update for me. I am gonna wait don't feel like downloading over 400 megs.
-
nekrosoft13, they delayed the release of SP1, due to other problems, not because of drivers. SP1 was internally released in January, went (officially) to RTM on the 5th of January, was launched in middle February on MSDN/Technet and you got it now because they don't really care about customers getting it early (business users come first).
-
When I get off work I'm going to download and install it.
Wondering what to expect. -
-
Final SP1 is build on January 18th -
Why not? I guess there are plenty willing to install Vista SP1.
-
full buid is 6001.18000.080118-1840
080118-1840 = 2008, January 18th 6:40pm -
Good find with the date. My build date for some files seems to be 19th of January (WS 08).
-
are you 100% sure about that? could you post a screenshot, server 2008 and vista had the same build
-
I know they are the same build, but I will not post a screenshot.
Many files created by Windows are dated 19.01.2008. -
Hey guys, if you have problems/questions regarding SP1, here is a site that helps with issues preventing people from seeing SP1 in Windows Update.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343#method5
In my case, I had to install/hide an optional update as SP1 will only come to you if your update queue is blank. There are several other issues the may prevent you from seeing the update. -
Good find! Thanks for the link.
Windows Vista SP1 was released!
