The i7-2820QM isn't really all that much better than the 2720QM. Even if your usage is intensive I doubt you'd notice the ~3-6% clock difference or the difference in cache size.

    My advice:
    - Downgrade to the i7-2720QM
    - Get 2GB of RAM and upgrade it yourself for cheaper
    - Use the saved money to get the RGBLED IPS display (makes the most difference for graphical work) - but note that you get less battery life because Optimus is not supported with the IPS display.

    Hi Everyone!
Thanks so much for your help! The Dell rep said the 4600 only comes with 4 slots. I appreciate any and all comments regarding this purchase - I will pull the trigger sometime today. so far I upped the external to the IPS monitor and upped the battery to a 9 cell. Up, Up, Up, $, $, $!
    Thanks!

    Hi edit1754!

Noted on the i72720QM - thanks!

Does putting the RAM in myself do anything to the warranty?

On the ips display - I am getting ips on the external monitor - I am trying to decide if I need it on both since I will mostly be working at my desk. I think it is right to get the better one.

    Thanks!!!
