no, but im hoping they will have some of the features of the latitude Z series. although my bank account and wallet are already crying at the prospect of replacing my year old precision.

might just get an SSD to make it faster, maybe a QX9300.

if you want hybrid SLI i think you're looking at a gaming machine. maybe you should get an alienware.

doubt we'll see hybrid SLI workstation GPU's anytime soon.

im curious what would you use USB 3 for? external hard drives can be used with the eSATA port.

do you think its safe to get a current generation SSD? im a bit hesitant to get one too soon before the tech matures a bit. what do you think?

    cheers

I'd still want USB 3 simply because there's no standard for power over eSATA yet. If you want to use an eSATA drive, you've got to use a power brick or at the very least, a second cable, unless you can find one of these elusive enclosures that can make use of the eSATA interface and take power from the USB component of the combo port.

Even then, I'd still need to have a USB component because none of my other machines have eSATA or combo eSATA ports, and I definitely haven't seen an enclosure like this. AND I'd still need to have another cable, and it'd still be a fail.

With USB 3, you'd kill all the birds with one stone, since it passes power and is backwards compatible. Just my two cents.

Just give me a decent touchpad! The touchpad on my E6500 is too small, too slick and generally hard to use.

@ afhstingray im pretty sure i have seen plenty business models with hybrid sli or whatever its called . use the integrated gpu untill such times that the real gpu is required

this is a very important feature for business class machines , lower power consumption = lower temps &better battery life , things that gaming notebook owners dont get a look in with there practiacally desktop components shoved into a cramped case

im asking about precisions and latitudes and features id like to see implemented because it would be very beneficial to all!

i dont want a gaming machine i only use business class machines as i just prefer the features the build and the warrantys and modular bays etc etc

and ur usb3 question was basically what id say plus the fact it uses less cpu power and is more energy efficient

plus its going to be on every machine very soon so why wouldnt i want to future proof my machine a little ??

as for its uses well its an alternative to esata which is handy

say i have one esata port on my machine and i want to clone two discs or do a duplicate file comparison a usb2 drive would make it many many times slower

im puzzled why u even ask why i want new features on my next laptop ? should we just not upgrade no more ?

as for ssd's they farrrrr out way the minor problems that may occur and are getting better with firmware updates and as for safety well they have no moving parts will last longer than traditional drives are tons faster in every way

so with a decent sized esata drive i could do a full drive image in no time compared to the old usb and hdd's

oh and the one i bnought was the new samsung who provide a 3 year warranty so whats to worry about ?

ah silly me. when i read hybrid sli for some reason it registered in my mind as normal SLI. i agree, hybrid sli would be great for battery life. thinkpads have them. the integrated intel+ati gpu.

i suggested the alienware notebooks because the reviews so far seem to indicate that the build quality of the current generation is on par with business notebooks.

as for USB 3, i was just wondering what kind of devices can take advantage of the additional speed other than usb keys/ext hard drives.

i did not realise that eSATA did not provide power. i have a spare 500GB hard drive and was contemplating getting an eSATA enclosure for it, but if i have to use a power brick as well, that sucks.

Won't even consider a new one if they're changed to 16:9 screen's, particularly based on the latitude Z with it's near 17" footprint and super ugger shelf sticking out the back.

    I didn't think the new i7 cpu/chipset supported switchable graphic's ?

wait,I have a combo USB/eSATA drive on my 4300 and it supplies power and data transfer to my external HDD with a single enclosure and 1 cord.
