Question as title. 64Gb min, 128Gb preferred. Purchasing in the UK.

Not sure what you can get in the UK, I have a 32gb runcore in mine with a 16gig sdhc card. I got it from mydigitaldiscount.com

The RunCore drives are probably the best bet for the D430. I don't think there are any faster 1.8 PATA ZIF drives out (though I think there's a more expensive PhotoFast equivalent).

You can also consider the old Mtron ZIF drives, but they're generally more expensive per GB (since they're SLC) and have a slower controller to boot.

So basically I should look for a 1.8" PATA ZIF SSD?

Oh, I thought you were requesting a specific drive... yes, you should be looking for 1.8" PATA ZIF drives. There's a bunch of crappy ones out there, though, so beware.

When I was surfing for mine I could barely even find one. I settled on the runcore for price mainly since this machine to me is more of a netbook then a performance work horse.

    MemoryC is a possible source.

kingspec is the one I got for the D430. a lot better than normal HD. so so performance for an SSD. price can be cheaper. I went for 64G.

My wife is using a Latitude D420, which has identical PATA 1.8 ZIF.

I bought 2 SSD for her (both are SLC).

The 1st one is Mtron 32G. It is a nice drive. Good R/W speed. Vendor keeps the firmware updated for improved stableness and performance. But 32G is simply not enough. So I sold it and get a different one.

The 2nd one is Samsung 64G. I think this is from Sony's laptop. Because it comes as a PCB with chips. Very light but not so good protection. Considering the drive will be hidden between TouchPad and Battery. I don't think this would be an issue. Performance wise, it is on par with Mtron. Works well in Vista, plan to upgrade to Win7 later when my wife and I are both free.

If your current HD is a 4200rpm one, then Win7 + SSD would give you a total different experience even D430 only has a 1.2GHz CPU.

To be honest, I wouldn't spend money on a hard drive for the D430. Because it is different, you'll only be able to use the drive in that machine. Waiting until you replace that system with one that uses a standard 2.5" SATA drive is what I would recommend.
