    I have had my D430 not that long since I bought it second hand, however I think it could be overheating. Besides the blast of hot air on the side of the laptop, my normal core temps are:

    Core #0: 72 C
    Core #1: 75 C

    HD: 44 C

    ACPI Temp: 79 C

    I checked the fan and its very clean with virtually nothing on the blades. Is it supposed to run this way, or is this above normal?

    Please let me know.

    PS The machine also stalls every other second or so. Right now I am running Windows 7, 80 GB HD and 2 GB RAM. Nod32 AV is running as well and avg processor utilization is 1-10%.

    What CPU is it? That is quite hot for light load. Just because the fan is clean doesn't mean anything. The heatsink itself could be choked with dirt and the paste could need replacement.

    Thank you for the reply. However, to cover all grounds I spoke to Dell. They are sending out a MB, Fan, and Heatsink. That most likely will work, but I hope the tech doesn't break the system in the process :/ I took one apart at work, and it was no picnic especially that wireless switch.

    Thats why its good to have a warranty till 2012 I guess. I wonder what replacement I would get if the system still gets high temps after the replacement.

    You'll get a E4200 :) I had major heat issues with the D430 when I was working in Africa. It became so bad my laptop started smoking. Had nothing to do with faulty parts. Its just a faulty design.

    Mine gets pretty toasty as well, makes me laugh because it is not much of a LAPtop.

    I agree with both of you. I wonder if they are going to make a 4210 or something else like that in the future.

    Currently my box is in TX and going to sent to someone to install the parts. Looks like I have to bring my laptop to work, which shouldn't be that bad.

    I will keep everyone updated :)

    Since the E4200 is a bit more than your laptop was even new, they will probably try to work deals on something else. Case in point probably a E4300, which is slightly bigger but I recommend it, just read up on both.

    Well the tech came by and replaced the MB, heatsink, and fan assembly. I went through everything before he left and it was put together nicely. However I forgot to check the wireless switch :/ Sure enough it was hard to move so I opened up the laptop and found the switch laying on the plastic piece itself. So as you can imagine, the switch is now broke. Called Dell and they are sending another MB.

    This is correct way for the switch:

    ----
    == |
    ----

    What it was when I opened it:

    ----
    |
    ==--

    This stinks...

    EDIT: The diagrams didn't come out as expected. Either way, the switch is broke.

    Update:

    Well the new MB came in and it was DOA, so Dell agreed to replace the system. I asked what type of model would replace it, and all they could say was a like model. So I dunno what it could be, however the D430 came with quite a few things including a ATT/cingular card, and a dock, so whatever they are sending me should hopefully have that as well.
