i cannot figure out why my latency is bad on the E6400. a lot of the time, its perfectly fine, but other times its really annoying. could it be a program running thats doing it?

if so, ive got no idea which one it is, because it seems like its there sometimes and sometimes its not even when i do the same stuff.

Is this DPC latency that you measured with a tool? If so, which one?

Try removing the optical drive, and see if that helps. Otherwise, which wireless card do you have?

Regardless, using xperf from the Windows Performance Toolkit should tell you exactly where the issue is. Start reading from reply #35 for the details on how to get and use it.

What utilities are you referring to? Could you list all the drivers and utilities you uninstalled? Im keen on trying this out since Im having trouble with my wi-fi and Im pretty certain its related to the Dell Control Point. My wi-fi stops working after I restart or come back from hybernation. If I turn off the wi-fi from the physical button on the right side of the M4400 and restart it usually starts working again.

    Here's the link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...strOSs=163&OSFullName=Windows Vista*&lang=eng

It's the general INF Update Utility. :)

I come across a small issue though if I don't have the Matrix Storage Drivers - eSATA still works, but I cannot remove/hot-unplug eSATA devices (I don't have the option of doing so in Windows). Didn't try to just plug it out like that. :D

Ok, I had issues in Win7 installing drivers from the Dell CD in compatability/admin mode for vista. the system would hardfreeze, and lockup with no possibility of recovery.

I installed Vista and since then have been tinkering with driver combinations.

I updated my BIOS to A12 and then installed vista fresh, installed after that drivers from the dell site, all the while having horrid latency once i in stalled the matrix driver x.x.x1001 latency was green across the board only when i installed the wireless driver (5300) from intel did i get back into red bar country... im so close to returning this computer cracking audio dropping frames latency up to my ears...... i spit on the E series....

One quick question, are you supposed to look at the latency monitor with all programs closed and doing nothing?
