wow, before I used to have smaller audio clipping on my E6400. With that new update, its all gone...even listening to a song like the Golden Skans by the Klaxons there are no more distortions! Sweet.

There probably isn't another pc around with the exact same hardware chattering to each other it happens with some think pad and Toshibas i hear so its not as narrow scoped as people think, i very much believe its driver related. drivers are notorious for being quick fixes, when they worsen a problem its muddys the water somewhat.

Can someone help me analyze my results. I took two...one with WIFI ON and the other one is OFF... I get much less audio crackling with Wifi OFF but with it on, it's very bad.

    My Specs: E6400 2.4 GHz Windows Vista Business 32Bit, 4GB Ram, Wifi Dell 1510, 160HD, Nvidia 160M. IMSM 8.8, Bios A11

ndawg25 - Your results sure seem to point to the Dell Wifi driver, and not the IMSM drivers at all. Making sure you have symbols enabled, and attaching a text export rather than the images would be the next helpful step. I'd then open a trouble ticket with Dell, and include a link to this thread. Make sure anyone else you know having the same issue does the same. If Dell can't provide a prompt resolution, ask that they exchange your Dell Wifi for the Intel version, which seems to have less issues here.

Thanks for helping me figure this out Zeisemer! I have no idea what this ndis.sys file is and why the latency so high when Wifi is on!

I exported my latency results again as an Excel file but since the files are too large I had to send it through download links (must scroll to bottom to download and click save file). Sorry, I didn't know how else to give the files.

ndawg25 - Without symbols configured, there's not any additional information I can give you from these files. I defer to my previous response...

When running XP in ATA mode on my E6400, I had a top latency value of about 900 about every 30 seconds. So just for fun I decided I would try installing Vista with the latest 8.8 Intel Matrix driver. The latency values are now peaking at about a 1000 but with very low values in between. This is with Bluetooth, ESata, Intel security stuff, card reader and wireless turned off.

I then tried running DPC Checker on my work computer which is a desktop machine.. I know that the configuration is very different but it still amazes me that is shows very low latency values running XP. It holds steady at about 260-265.

I'm going to try the Windows Perf Tool later tonight and see if I can find out what's causing the spikes. And off course do a lot of music work and see if the system runs smoothly.

I would really like to know why it's so difficult getting low latency values on this laptop.

Oh, a lot of people seem to think that Vista is bad for audio work... and some think that it's quite good when when tweaked. I'm not quite sure yet what I think. My experience so far is that there are so many different variables that you can't really make generalisations like that.

    What do you lot think?

Okay, so I ran the analyzer. Hope I did it right. But as far as I can see the major troublemakers are ohci1394.sys and ndis.sys. I've installed this hotfix:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951410/en-us

    But it hasn't helped. Hmm...

I've tried finding some fixes for ndis.sys but none of them seem relevant.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930311/
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948278/
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958904

I'm using Vista. And the latency readings are still not good.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
