what do you guys use your E4200 for?

I initially bought it as a better specified netbook, and to test it, started to do some heavy-duty Photoshopping, do some vector illustration work on Illustrator CS3, and even some 3D modelling with Rhino & 3dsmax! I pushed the Intel graphic card to its max settings and so far, very little stutter even on fairly complex 3d or vector models. Impressive!

Since there's a firewire port, I'll try capturing some video. Some simple editing on Sony Vegas should be fine.

Fine little machine. Of course, forget abt rendering. But I have a desktop for that.

I use mine for a netbook and travel companion and work computer.
And I wasn't going to keep it as I have a mini 9 red. but decided to cuz it is a much better netbook all around.

I was wondering is it possible to add a bluetooth card into the e 4200 if it didn't come with one?

Jane, it is VERY easy to add a Bluetooth card. Click here for the simple guide. The great thing about Dells is that you can add pretty much anything without too much trouble (anything that is meant to be added, though ;) ). You will have to get the Dell 365 card from eBay, of course. Here's an example. Not bad for about ten quid, eh?

I really use mine as a netbook though I travel quite a bit so it has heavy duty Office 2007 apps plus Visio, Project and Adobe Acrobat. It also does some light-duty as an image-editing workstation.

For folks who may have missed it. Here's the link again to the Service Manual.

Actually, while it might be easy to do the replacement, getting the items needed to install isn't. To make a long story short, you can buy the dell 365 card, but to install it in an e4200, you also need a "holder" which the card attaches to and doesn't come with the card. Unfortunately I can't find that piece on dell's site or ebay.

Thank you for that info. I will check my E4200 today to see what is needed. That is strange though. Still, it can be managed without the holder, I am sure. Just won't be snug right? Now that you mention it, I recall my configuration had the mention of a 'BT holder', always wondered wth that was. Darn.

By the way, I am certain there is a P/N for the Dell holder, it's just a matter of figuring out what it is.

Edit: The part number is P772G, here is the Dell listing. If you want better luck though, you should probably just call the parts department. They seem to be a bit disjointed from the rest of the world. By the way, I was able to locate the part information from the attached spreadsheet. Others may find it useful as it contains the parts listing for all current E-series Latitudes. Admittedly, I have not looked through all the tabs. As geeky as I am, I care not a whit for the other Latitudes at this point since I don't own them.

I still haven't looked at mine but Dell may be right if it is any half-height mini-PCI card, it still might work. I just haven't looked at the connector to be sure. In the old days, the module had a proprietary connector (well a two or three pin job), it seems they have changed that. Not sure why you would need a mini-PCI card for something as 'simple' as BT but who knows.

You can test this yourself by sticking the card in per the instructions in the SM above and see if it fits. If it doesn't it would be blocked at one of the notches and you will know.

They are selling you a 370 precisely because of the holder. The 370 should work fine with if it comes with an antenna. If not just buy one and wire it yourself. Stick it in the WWAN slot. If you dont have that free then it is a problem.
