Yeah exactly, the BIOS can't even boot from SD Card as far as I can tell, forget about PCI-E but if a device meets the specs, then any of those SSDs should work. If you really want extra storage though, why not just get a ExpressCard drive? It's about as fast.

Not the ones I've used. I've got an 8GB Lexar here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820191057) and I'm lucky to get 5-6MB/s out of it.

True, but that Lexar is ancient by technology standards, no? I have been seeing that model for at least two years or more. That drive is basically a glorified SD card with little or no controller logic whatsoever. You only start having issues once you start saturating the bandwidth of the interface and 5-6MB won't even rustle a leaf in that world. So the drive is clearly the bottleneck. I believe the new drives are faster though I don't own one to be fair.

Yeah, the one I've got is about 18 months old. My point was that it, and other brands like it, are still being sold, and the performance stinks. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part, the performance is well below a quality thumbdrive or SD card (I use a 16GB Sandisk Extreme III SDHC in my E4200 for extra storage and it's got no problems with 30MB/s reads and writes).

Yeah, exactly, it's the drive. For some reason the ExpressCard sector has lagged. I am gonna have to blame the netbooks here. Most don't have the slot and there is no compelling reason for manufacturers to churn out products that aren't in huge demand. They are overpriced since the economies of scale just aren't there. On the other hand, netbooks have pushed down the prices of the ultra small form factor laptops. Sure, Sony still prices its TT high, but you can get a bare model under $1500 now if not less.

And, of course, our beloved E4200 can now be had for about the same price as a Asus S101 netbook from the Outlet though that has more to do with the lack of demand for it than anything else (or so I suspect).

Hi, I was wondering I have 2 slots with 1GB of ram in each in my computer.
How high can I upgrade the ram?
Would I do like 2 and 2gb or can it be 1 and 2gb.
    Thanks for any help.
    Jane

There is a 1Gb onboard RAM so you cant replace it. There's only one slot where you can put your own RAM.

So you could have 1+1,1+2, or 1+4 GB of RAM for this system. 1 stick of 4GB is very expensive though. I saw them selling for $400 on ebay.

I wonder if upgrading to 3gb of ram or 4 even if expensive would really be worth it. hmmm
