    Hi,

Just installed Windows 7 on my E4300. This is the first time I'm trying out an OS other than XP (never touched Vista) :)

Most of the components seem to work well.
Can anyone tell me if they got the screen brightness (Fn + up, down or left arrows) to work? I can see the toggle on the screen move from left to right in the settings, but the actual screen doesn't actually go dim or bright.

When I pull the power and run on batt, the screen dims (and I cannot make it brighter). And if it's on power, I cannot dim it either.

Is this a driver issue? Which driver? The closest one I see is the Video driver.

Also, does anyone also notice the mouse pad being sluggish?
I'm so used to very fast mouse where if I move my finger from the top right to the bottom left, the mouse arrow also does the same on the screen in one shot.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks all :)

Press Windows Key + X and is there a slider for brightness in the window that opens (at least on vista it does, but I haven't tried 7 yet)?

Yes, it does bring up the Windows Mobility Center, but moving the brightness slider doesn't do anything to the display.

Maybe you could try update the BIOS, that's all I can really think of... latest version is A06.

and is the ambient light sensor disabled? It could interfere with brightness settings.

We have exactly the same problem with the E4200. We have to wait for Dell to release updated Win7 compatible drivers.

When you go into the BIOS, you can set the default brightness levels for the two cases: on battery or on AC power. You have them set at different levels, and that's why the brightness changes dependent on whether it running on battery or AC.

You may want to install the Dell touchpad drivers. The behavior is different than with the Windows 7 default drivers.

I've the same issue with my E4300
The hotkeys worked once then stopped. If you try it as 7 is booting it works fine. once the OS gets to the login screen it stops. Having the control centre instsalled or not installed makes no differance. A06 BIOS also installed.
So looks like we'll be wating for driver fixes

I noticed that there is a brand new BIOS that was released May 14, 2009. Has anyone with Windows 7 installed tried this and see if it fixes the brightness control problem?
