I have some problems with the screen on my e6400 one week old.
The screen is flickering. This is most noticed when showing gradients
Like the images on this site: http://www.home.no/t-o-k/Colour_Gradients/index.html

If I open up the same page on another computer the images does not flicker at all.

Does anybody else have the same problem?

Check and play around with your screen refresh rate. It should be set a 60hz.
Also see if installing the latest graphics drivers from laptopvideo2go.com helps with the flickering issue.

I also sometimes see a hint of flickering. It seems to happen most often at low brightness levels. perhaps the LED backlight brightness is controlled by turning them on and off instead of reducing the voltage.

It is. And I had the same problem with my sony before they fixed it with a bios update. Mac users have had the same as well.

It's much more noticable on low brightness, but there's a suprising amount of people who don't see it.

    OK.

I used to have big problems with the flicker of CRT monitors running at 60Hz.

Hmmm, I get the flickering brightness issue when I'm running on battery. Doesn't happen when I'm connected with AC though.

hmm, this is something different. Not so much as the refresh being visible, more like the refresh on all each led colour not being in sync, so every now and then you saw a red flash, or a less noticable green.

No. An LCD screeen should not flicker. It may ripple when the video changes modes as on boot up, but it should be stable otherwise. Call Dell.

Also, try booting in safe mode, plain vga, to see if the issue persists.

As far as I know, the E6400 display uses white LEDs for the backlight, but I may be wrong.
