    hi all,
I got my E6400 last week and I found the same problem with my LED screen.
Anyone haven tried use your DC or DSLR to see the LED screen?
when I use my DC watch the E6400 LED screen, I found that the flickering is very obvious.
I use the same way to watch my DELL 2407WFP LCD, which doesn't have any flicker.
Is that normal or it is my LED screen problem?
I hope someone cound understand what I mean, because I come from other country and my English is not pretty good.

Can you see the flicker on your E6400 at all brightness levels, or only when it is at low brightness? The flicker is because the LEDs used for the backlight are quickly turned on and off. The proportion of the time they are on affects the brightness levels. Switching is more power efficient than trying to vary the voltage.

You cannot make a comparison with the Dell 2407WFP LCD. Most desktop monitors still use fluorescent backlights. In these the phosphors lose their brightness slowly.

    wow, its strange.
When I adjusted the brightness level to the highest and used my DC to saw again, it doesn't flicker anymore, but once I decresed some brightness levels, it started to flicker.
    Is there any solution?
here is my video that captured the flickery situation at low brightness level.

Digital cameras will exaggerate the flicker because the shutter speed is short. The human eye averages the brightness. Therefore you only see the flicker when the display is dim and the duration of the LED on is short compared with the LED off.

The solution is simple: Raise the brightness a few steps to where you cannot see the flicker. The effect on the battery run time will be minimal.

The problem is that I don't lower the brightness level to save battery time. I lower it because I use it in dark rooms. If I raise the brightness it hurts my eyes.

For me this is not a screen issue. It is a software issue.
If you have an Intel Graphics card try disabling the energy saving settings.

When I have energy saving settings enabled. the screen flickers with low brightness. when I disable the energy saving the flickering is gone.

    hello-

i got my work provided e6400 this week. Booted straight into a win7 setup disk. I have the intel graphics card.

my screen flickers on low settings and when i use the auto feature.

which power saving settings are you referring too?

i turned off the auto dim feature, but still have a awful flicker.

i really like this laptop but it may have to go back....

btw: i received another the same day with this one and its running xp pro and has the same flicker.

oh and i agree it must be the screen because i plugged it into a samsung lcd screen on my desk and had no flicker what so ever.

my co worker can run at full brightness, but i like low brightness on all my monitors.

    very frustrated.....

For me flickering disappeared with the last video driver update from the Dell website. It will sometime flicker on battery at the lowest setting, but this one is too dim for me anyway.

The last bunch of updates improved the auto-brightness quite a lot as I almost never set it manually set now (I was always before).

    Hi!

    What OS are you running?

I am running win 7 7201 rc and have tried drivers from intel, windows update, and of course dell(vista).

I called dell and they said they could do nothing since i installed an unsupported OS on the machine. I either can return it with in 21 days of purchase or create a partition to load xp and call back for support.

I was going to send it back tomorrow and look for a different laptop. Too bad cause i have configured for me and other than the screen i couldn't be happier with the machine. Bummed out.....

I didn't think it was a driver issue since i have no flicker with external monitors?

Oh and I need to be able to use the lowest brightness setting. It doesn't flicker at hi-brightness settings from mid way on.

One more thing: i can play with the brightness levels going back and forth and this sometimes fixes the flicker. Also toggling from the ambient light sensor and back sometimes corrects it.
