You will get the most benefit from the SSD by having it as the boot drive with Windows + programs. Therefore it needs to be the fixed drive. A HDD with data could be swappable with the optical drive. Or you can connect either a HDD or an optical drive in a bay to the eSATA port.

That is an interesting point, but it measures performance in units that do not apply to my usage needs. I would measure efficiency in units of spreadsheets per kWH or carbon footprint per MS Project plan. Therefore, it seems like the energy consumed to, say, send a dozen emails would be less with the Intel than with NVIDIA, regardless of how efficiently the NVIDIA can render Photoshop images.

    Am I missing something here?

And John, they will certify the Intel configuration if I drop the webcam. Not sure what the relationship is between them.

Correct, if you see this way.

But normally, we see it with performance output per watts, and extra features when a tie, as bonuses.

However, the energy efficiency rating of most equipment is based on the power consumption when on idle.

Why bother with EnergyStar Enabled/EPEAT-Gold? Unless you are running a large enterprise, any energy saving are irrelevant.

For the individual user the EPEAT-Gold standard is of no real value. Don't worry about it. Put it out of your mind.

Could not agree more... for a first time of what Linuxwanabe said.
If you wonder about battery life, you will have more with the Intel solution, especially that based on what you said you do, you won't be pushing the Intel GPU much. It might be under load with PowerPoint 2010 with it's new Direct2D engine, but should not be of any worry.

    Hey all,

Searched this forum quite a bit regarding a problem I am having while trying to install XP Pro SP2 on our new E6410 laptops. I am left with a few items in the device manager that I cannot find drivers for. The items have the Yellow ? with exclamation point on them. 3 items and they all read Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus.

Any help would be appreciated. I have downloaded just about every driver from the dell site, and still have these three items remaining.. Worst problem is my service tags are so new they are not recognized by the dell online support system.. Ugh

Thanks for the input, though it's a bit subjective. Not knowing exactly how EnergyStar is implemented in the E6410, I want to make sure I am not introducing phantom currents and other forms of energy waste by purchasing this laptop. The EPEAT-Gold standard is of great value to those of us who are concerned about waste reduction, toxins in the environment (and in the children who mine metals from the trash of the Chinese manufacturers), and efficient use of natural resources. As the Director of Sustainability of a construction company, it is my job to keep these factors in the forefront of my mind.

BTW, I'm going with an outlet model. Everything it lacks can be obtained for just a few dollars on eBay or configured after purchase. It'll be here much faster, too. Thanks for all the help, folks.
