I don't know if I said this here or not. So sorry if I am repetitive.
I already had this issue with my E6400, but now solved since over a year.
I don't know EXACTLY the problem, but my guess it's a driver conflict. The easy cure (and yes also faster, unless you are a master of Windows registry and know how it works) a driver conflict is to re-install Windows.

As laptops is the system that sleep/wake up the most often (compared to a desktop), anything that bugs a driver will cause a problem somewhere. If you wonder why Microsoft doesn't do anything about it, the answer is that they are, and they already did HUGE steps in reducing the problem to a few possible cases here and there (which you can even say simple bad luck), when re-engineering the Win NT kernel, aka: Vista (which Win7 based and improved upon).
Follow the user GK (see his signature) for a guide on drivers order. It's instructions are based on Dell recommendations but goes more precise for Latitude E users. The method will avoid potential conflicts and follow what Dell tested the system.

Hmm, I'm using the 260.99 Nvidia Drivers, and I've put my laptop to sleep 3 times today with out a problem.

Try doing a clean install of your video drivers.

Has anyone here tried replicating MacBooks two finger scrolling for the e6410? It's not as smooth as the Macs.

The problem seems to be deeper than that. Another user has also mentioned this on page 197 here and it seems that unfortunately a re-install didn't fix the problem.

I myself have also seen this problem (on both hibernate and sleep) on occasions in the past month since I got my e6410.
From my own experience, it seems that e6410 with the latest nvidia driver (260.66) fail to resume from hibernate occasionally; and with 259.22 (latest driver from DELL) it has problem resuming from sleep when on battery.
Since I have my e6410 plugged-in most of the time and love to use hibernate all the time, I uninstalled 260.66 and went back to DELL driver for now.

I am hoping there will be a fix for this on the next driver or BIOS update.

I just ordered an e6410 to replace my HP dv9207. The total with tax was $1005.73. Any idea of what kind of battery life I'll be getting with these specs? When I'm not plugged in, I'm sitting in 3-hourish classes with a browser open and some OpenOffice documents up. I'm used to having my HP die on me about an hour in...

Given the i7 and the Quadro graphics, probably 1.5-2 hours full brightness full blast use. Maybe 2.5-3 if you dim the screen a bit and still using it to the max..

That's what I wanted to hear. I won't likely be maxing the brightness, just pulling up documents and material for class, far from heavy use. It'll sit in sleep mode half of my classes anyway, so I might get two classes in without charging. Should be here by the 21st...

With my 9 cell battery and i5 processor, I get 7 hours surfing the web. That is with the screen fully dimmed.
