You should install the drivers, but NOT the software. Not installing the drivers may cause problem with sleep and/or not having power saving features.

I don't put my computer to stand by, sleep, hibernate. It's running full blast or is turned off.

You might want to do that reimage bit again and leave out the wrong driver you installed. And you can still skip installing the Broadcom USH device driver. It's banged here on 2 machines and causes no problems.

Right I reimaged it again with the Dell disc. Not installing USH drivers/software again!

Well, I just picked up a e6410 instead of waiting/saving for a refreshed MBP. I know they are two different animals, but I couldn't resist the price...

    Specs:

    Core i7-640M
    4 GB DDR3
    500 GB HDD
    Windows 7 Pro 32 bit
Nvidia 3100m graphics with Express Card (hopefully that what EXCR means on the specs)
    14.1" WXGA+
    Bluetooth
    Intel 6250 Wireless

Also, it appears it has a Dell Wireless 5540 based on the service tag. I didn't see that in the outlet description so we will see tomorrow if thats true.

How quiet is an E6410 i5-560 with IntelHD graphics likely to be running linux e.g. is there high fan noise if you watch a youtube video in a browser/flash?

I currently have a 6 year old Fujitsu P7010D 1.1GHz M with 855GM running linux, and almost anything such as watching a youtube video or displaying 3D graphics will cause the fan to spin at high speed.

I had a couple of Fujitsu S6xxx series and the fan on those was noisy because it is small (the result of a relatively thin chassis - my Toshiba R500 is the same). The Latitude E series have big fans that run quietly in comparison. You need to be in a quiet room to hear the fan running.

We have hundreds of E6410, and I never hear the fan, but I can sure feel the heat coming off these I5-520M CPUs when my hand is placed near the vent. So it's a big slow fan that still moves a lot of air.

We have had lots of complaints from left handed mouse users because they put the mouse on that side of the laptop when mobile.

I agree that the Core-i series CPUs can push out a fair amount of heat.

I'm left handed but have always used a mouse on the right side - the relic of using a shared workstation over 20 years ago (but I use the touchpad with the left hand). I can see that left handed mouse operation would be useful so I can operate the mouse and hit the delete key without having to reach across the keyboard.

I was using my i3/IGP in my E6410 watching HD video and generally working. Though it said it was like 55C with heavy load, I absolutely did not hear the fan at all. And my i3 is the same TDP as the i5's. I could feel the heat spewing out the side though, but John is correct, the E6410 fan is much larger in comparison to many other notebooks I have serviced. The larger the fan, the less RPM it can spin and flow the same amount of air as a smaller fan, so it can be quieter.
