Thanks for your reply, I called Dell support (this is a corporate laptop with a support agreement), and they agreed there must be a problem with the heatsink.

I just had a visit by a Dell engineer, he replaced both the motherboard and heatsink  , everything is woking OK now :)

GPU is idle at 65-75C (with two monitors), and I haven't manage to get it any hotter (tried Youtube 720p etc), CPU fan is on most of the time at 2900 RPM (very silent), I guess that's normal...?

    Thanks for the update.

The fan speed is about right for a docked computer. Your GPU is hotter than mine (Intel) but I'm only running a single 1680 x 1050 display.

It gives me no problems. Did you try installing Windows 7 using its built-in SATA driver and then changing the driver afterwards?

    Hi,

I am new E6410 Dell user and new to Dell also, love it;)

    I have few questions.

First of all I was instaling Win7 and all drivers by myself chipset, graphics, wlan etc.

    1. I don't have any Dell power managment program and while working on 9cell battery with wlan mid brigthness my lap stands for 4-5 hours is it ok? Will Dell power managment help? What is the name of the program?

    2. Till I installed Dell System Update Client 1080p YT videos run smoothly now I can't play either 720p or 1080p picture just freeze. Any suggestions where might be the problem?

    3. How to turn on auto brightness control is there any Dell app for that?

    4. Anyone using this neopren sleeve with E6410 and 9cell battery?

DELL Neoprene Sleeve - Fits Laptop of Screen Size 14" : Laptop Accessories | Dell

    5. Last problem is slight squeak coming probably from hdd (160gb 5400) or fan is it ok or it will be better to contact dell service?

Thanks in advance for you help

    1) I think its good. Win7 have inside - management to battery.
    2) Hmmm in my 6410-win7 - YT full hd is playing very good. Try to uninstal this system update, try to find new drivers (graphic not from dell site), reinstal webbrowser...
    3) a) power on in BIOS b) run by Fn+ left arrow (on keyboard), you can also install DCP - Dell Control Point.
    4) I think that battery can be outside of the sleeve ;/
    6) This can be disk but also like in mine (but for know its not bad for me) this can be mainboard "noise" (i write about it few pages earlier). Of course you can contact with dell service.

    >>1. I don't have any Dell power managment program and while working on 9cell battery with wlan mid brigthness my lap stands for 4-5 hours is it ok? Will Dell power managment help? What is the name of the program?

Hard to be sure without knowing all loads, but could be about right. DCP System Manager may help. Also check Windows power option settings. And BIOS power management settings.

    >>2. Till I installed Dell System Update Client 1080p YT videos run smoothly now I can't play either 720p or 1080p picture just freeze. Any suggestions where might be the problem?

    No idea.

    >>3. How to turn on auto brightness control is there any Dell app for that?

Check the BIOS setting. Which also interacts with the DCP System Manager settings.

    >>4. Anyone using this neopren sleeve with E6410 and 9cell battery?

Using it with 6-cell. Should have space for 9-cell. Nice minimalist protection for carrying the notebook in a pack.

    >>5. Last problem is slight squeak coming probably from hdd (160gb 5400) or fan is it ok or it will be better to contact dell service?

Confirm the source. The fan should purrr. The HDD might tick but should not squeak and should be nearly inaudible. You could remove the bottom plate (single captive screw in center) and without touching anything, boot the notebook and listen about with a *plastic* tube to isolate the sound source... don't short anything.
