I know, it's annoying.. I don't even use VSync just the fact that it doesn't go back to max (I have the E6400), I am working on a solution to the problem. The concept idea is that you have a running program that will know if you are plug-in or not. From there it can apply any Nvidia overclock profile based if you are plug-in or not (optional), in addition be able to set the refresh rate of the display (on supported displays) from minimum or maximum.

My problem is that I want to do it in C++ to have a very fast startup, and be very light on system resources. The problem is that I never done a GUI in C++, and not have yet an idea on how to do this.

Just as an update, as earlier promised, I also found that the latest NVIDIA driver from Dell prevents TV detection via a DisplayPort to HDMI male adapter. Switching to the Microsoft Update Catalog versions, 189.74, immediately restored the ability to utilize an external display via the adapter. I also found that sound plays through the TV without any modification to any settings within Windows 7.

Specifically, I picked up this adapter. Works great and can be purchased at a very reasonable price.

Use the custom installer package... worked for me and behaves like most other Dell downloads.

can't say it's the only way, but it's effective, and worthwhile for other reasons... I've noticed some speed improvements (albeit subjective) since the fresh install, and the touchpad is more responsive as well.

Can't conclude this... my factory E6410 did not have a sleep problem. If you have no other compelling reason to re-image, you might want to run it by a Dell tech first, although it sounds like it could be a stubborn issue to troubleshoot. Otherwise, re-image and expect a fresh experience. My E6410 was running fine but I still wanted to re-image to lean it down a bit and to take full control of it... and I'm glad I did.

    RE: WHINE FROM SPEAKERS/HEADPHONE JACK/ETC

Does this problem exist for everybody? This has been a very, very annoying problem for me as I use my E6410 for educational lectures very often and the whine is so high pitched.

Please speak up and mention it if you have this problem! Or mention that you don't have it!

Ok, here's an interesting problem I've just encountered, and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this. I'm on BIOS A03 and running all the latest Dell drivers.

Fresh Install of 7 - blinking HDD every few seconds - Windows 7 Forums

My hard disk light was blinking constantly (and at a very constant rate, which I found slightly annoying). I thought my Windows install was doing something weird, but it turns out it's the optical drive that causes it. Ejecting that from Windows (Safely Remove Hardware -> Eject) stops it. It must be Intel's chipset drivers or something, since the same machine on Linux doesn't do this. Anyone else noticed this?

Did you happen to install the Intel storage manager software as well as the drivers? The manager software frequently checks for any changes in the storage devices and was one cause of latency spikes on the E6400.
