The only things I have running on startup are the nVidia drivers, the touchpad drivers, the sound drivers and Microsoft Security Essentials. Everything else I've turned off.

the e6410's keyboard is a close 2nd to any Lenovo keyboard. i'd buy my e6410 over again in a heartbeat over a similarly specced Lenovo. (probably cause it was 1/2 the price!) like you i was afraid of switching from my Lenovo's to a Dell, but this has completely met my needs in a keyboard!

I'm looking to replace my "UK not-backlit keyboard" of Dell Latitude E6410 (A03 bios) with a backlit version.

As a little note, current E6410 typing experience is twice as worse as on my previous also not-backlit Dell Latitude E6400 I've had (which was made in Poland, the new one is made in China) so hopefully things will improve a bit and I won't blame China for it.

Am I safe with HT517 part number which should be UK backlit keyboard for Dell E6400?
    Will it fit E6410?

I've searched the forum and haven't found the answer concerning E6410. Thank you.

I believe that the keyboard is exactly the same between the two models, but I'd let someone else confirm before you take my word for it.

the more i use this thing, the less i think i can live with the screen. it seems you have a choice between a nice saturated image which loses detail in the dark areas and has light falloff in the corners, and an evenly lit but washed out image. and sometimes there is just no way to see the whole screen the way i want to see it.

the screen kinda reminds me of a poor quality pva panel in a dell 22" monitor I tried and returned a few years ago, in that i find myself spending a great deal of time moving my head around to make things look right. even my fiancee doesn't like it, and she's obviously not too picky ;)

so i think i'll order an e6510 with the full hd screen, see if that works any better for me. if i like that, i'll return or sell the e6410. one thing just occurred to me... having opened the package for the windows reinstall disc, does that mean i can't return the system?

in other news, i got the replacement keyboard, which seems to be an improvement from the first one.

I'm not sure if my eye's are just not trained to notice, but my screen looks great on my e6410. I mean I have good eye sight and recognize colors and it really looks good, I'm not quite sure why a lot of people are complaining?? I mean I guess I could try and complain about the viewing angles but there way better than my 3 yr old inspiron.

On a separate note, does anyone else think there latch feels kind of 'cheap'? not sure if mine just has a problem as it came from the outlet but my old inspiron latch was better. anyone?

    No complaints here either.

    I wouldn't say it's as good as what you'd find on a Thinkpad, but I don't think it's "cheap".

I have to give a bit of a warning to those looking to buy the E6410 with the 128gb SSD. I just received a batch of them, and they are all stuffed with the Lite-On LE-128M1S SSD, which is slowwwwwwwwwwwwww. Our older machines from Dell all came with the PM800 Samsung SSD. I will have to get a hold of my Dell rep and express my disgust that they would charge the same for a crappy Lite-ON SSD vs a Samsung

Dell doesn't specify the hardware manufacturer at the time of sale. Oddly enough, the only party selling "LE-128M1S" SSDs online is using the Samsung brand-name. The going price is $199 apparently

It's no secret that Dell makes money on hardware upgrades, and I have no idea whether the 128GB SSD upgrade is worth $350. At the time of the order, you specified a "128GB SSD" without any way of knowing what the manufacturer would be. You might have assumed you would be getting Samsung SSDs, but that assumption was based solely on your past experience, not on the basis of any commitment or obligation on the part of Dell. In other words, you got what you paid for.

If you want to specify specific hardware, you have to do business with a small boutique "manufacturer" like AVAdirect that simply fits out barebone notebooks. In all the years I've dealt with Dell, they've never specified hardware manufacturers for HDDs.

I politely disagree, especially when the Dell forums are full of posts regarding Dell Latitude laptops full of Samsung SSDs, and I have a stable of E-Series Latitudes here, each and every one equipped with a Samsung SSD. My company has a long history with Dell, and such a bait and switch is certainly unexpected and disappointing.

I also find it somewhat humorous that Dell Latitude laptops are supposed to be rigorously tested business machines with mature, stable hardware, yet this SSD is totally unknown and not even available for purchase anywhere. Says a lot IMO.
