    1. If it doesn't say MIL certified, it probably isn't. Actually, I don't think the last generation met those standards, except for the ATG model.

    2. The hinges on the E5x20 look similar to those of a consumer notebook of yesteryear. It doesn't look robust, but there again, looks can be deceiving. I think I'd way for an actual hands on test. Hopefully, the E5x20 series will have a more active and enthusiastic user base than the E5x10 series, which wasn't reviewed until late last year.

At the high end, I don't think that MacBook Pros should be confused with true work stations and gaming notebooks, but bottom end 13 inch MacBook Pro is probably viable for light workplace use, leaving aside the issue of the glare screen and skimpy 1 year warranty.

got my E6520 yesterday, swapped the HDD out for an SSD - initial impressions:
Build quality is very nice, the whole thing feels solid, no flex anywhere. As has been mentioned, the lid is very smudge prone.
I thought I might find the off-centre keyboard annoying, but it isn't a problem at all for me.
Laptop is super quiet, basically silent under normal use, and running Prime95 on all 8 threads it is still very quiet.
The 1920x1080 screen is great, if text is too small on this screen size for you at this resolution, you probably need glasses. For some reason Dell shipped it with the text DPI scaled up a notch, I'm now running it at normal size.
Kind of annoying I thought the backlit keyboard was default on the UK model because there wasn't any option to change the keyboard - turns out I was wrong, they just haven't put the option in yet and now I'm stuck with the standard keyboard.
Also annoying they still don't have the Modular bay accessories for sale either on the Dell website or on ebay. I really need one of the modular bay HDD adapters.
I bought an E Port Advanced Dock which shipped with a 130W brick, but the laptop only ships with a 90W brick - I presume its safe to put the laptop on the dock with the 130W adapter?

It should be fine as any E-series accessories are designed to work with a E-series laptop.

Shipped today, will be here thurs 3/31 (11 days earlier than estimated.) Will post to the owners' thread once I have a chance to install the X25M and reimage it.

Am a bit disappointed as with others that the modular bay accessories and additional battery SKUs are not posted yet ... ah well, nothing urgent til mid-May when I will likely need a 2nd battery for travel.

I ordered the complete notebooks and the second 9-cell-battery (as well as a 3-cell-battery {for the bay}) via phone call. My old bay equipment from the E6500 may fit into the bay or I will use my external DELL-bay (with the pigtail) which I bought for the E6500 to connect it to the esata-port. My bay drive was originally from Lenovo (for 2,5") but it fits into the bay of the E6500 and as well into the external bay purchased from DELL. I can recomment to get an offer in three steps.
    1. prepared via internet
    2. requested by phone call and
    3. send from DELL via e-mail.
This way I have been ordering many additional items,
items which are not listed in the internet shop.
I will be using Clonezilla to copy the complete disk to a SSD. Later I will be using Clonezilla for full backups of the SSD.

I orderd a E6520 Monday and the rep included a "E-Modular Bay, USB 3.0" even though it wasen't in the accessories listed for the E6520. $50 extra.
So there are other accessories available.

I am looking into buying an SSD drive to install into the E6520 when I get one. Any recommendations? Also, does the E6520 use SATA II or SATA III ??

If you want a drive today, Vertex 2. If you want to wait a month, Vertex 3. The E6520 uses SATA III, as does the Vertex 3.
