oh i was half considering the studio xps 16 as it comes with a slightly higher speed cpu the 2.8ghz one , which is what i currently use , its sleeker looking than the m1730 and i assume a damn sight lighter and quieter

but if i have to get a consumer laptop then i want it to play games well , not sure why tho as im not much of a gamer ....

just upgrade me to a precision please, my brain hurts now!

The gpu will run all games atm. This will last you a couple of years before it will no longer be able to play any game. you could get the xps 16 if you are interested in this model. Try to talk to the cs.

Perhaps you should just ask for a maxed out replacement of what you have now (less the finger print reader). It makes no sense to give you an Inspiron as replacement for a Latitude. You know you won't be happy with it.

the only thing left to upgrade my laptop is a cpu with one notch above what i already have , when i bought the latitude it was fully specced then , the only upgrade i could see other than that is more ram but that is something i wont even notice

i feel as if the 2.8 just isnt quick enough sometimes but i will see what they come up with , i dont see why they cant provide a precision , customer service should be able to do it i dont see why they wouldnt

plus the differences between the consumer notebooks and the latitudes/precision are too great i think , will take something special to sway me from business laptops

They absolutely should not replace a business machine with a consumer machine.
As far as I can tell, Dell are not in a very good negotiating position on this, you should push for whatever machine will make you happy and keep escalating (politely) through Dell until you are completely satisfied.

thats what i assumed, but i was told the only thing i should be entitled to is a like for like replacement , they gestured the next cpu up as i mentioned previously, but i feel that is a very lame gesture and more of a quick shut me up method than a sincere gesture of goodwill and appology

we all know that word sorry only means so much , but means very little from a call center drone in india , who is really just trying his best to get me of the phone without going out his way

dell have one decent person his name is john blain he is pushing for the machine that i asked for i think although it is considerably more expensive than what my latitude cost me, well thats retail prices im going by not what the cost would be to dells pocket which would be insignificant to them

i dare say it would be cheaper for them to keep me happy than have this go further and i have had great interest from several online news sites and tech blogs who are quite willing to run a warning of what i have experienced...

although im not one for creating a fuss like that id rather they sorted me out and of i went !

thanks btg123 , i wasnt really interested in getting anything for free but the indian call reps attitude has p'ed me of quite alot in the past few phonecalls we have had

compared to john blain from dell the indian call center staff are a disgrace what impressed me by john blain was this comment ...

As an aside, I assure you no one is recommending you keep that machine. Allowing one faulty machine to swing your business towards our competitors when you’ve already had 5 that were good enough to swear by is a bit drastic.
I am doing what I can to make sure this comes to a satisfactory and speedy conclusion.

if he were in charge of those call center staff im sure customers would have alot more stress free dealings with customer service departments!

Are you using a 2-prong or 3-prong AC adapter? I've gotten a nice zap from my D620 fingerprint reader when using a 2-prong adapter...

If you keep pushing, you will likely get what you want.

We had an Inspiron E1505, which was never built correctly. By this I mean no screws were ever used. We noticed the task bar was slightly below the lid, they said that was "normal", after 2-3 months, it got worse. We sent it in, turns out not LCD screws at all, as well as a few missing from the MOBO, and no HDD screws.

We were a bit ticked at this point, as it was not correct since the beginning. It took another 1-2 months of arguing with Dell, but we finally got a brand new laptop out of them. When we purchased the original one, it was a Pentium M, and the new ones were are Core2Duo, so we got a better replacement out of it. They wanted to refuse replacement, then a refurb, etc. It took awhile, and finally getting someone that speaks English, but we did get what we wanted.

    Don't give up, keep pushing.
