yes, it's too high and i only paid 128GBP for my T9900
also note the 320 SSD would be an aftermarket wannahave for ANY system
and 8GB DDR2 only costed me 59GBP so it's not too bad...

Visit the Throttlestop Guide to unleash the Extreme processor. Also what are the temps like with an X9100? Most E6400 only come with a 25 watt P series processor..so jumping to 44 is pretty drastic.

getting 32c under normal "balanced" powerscheme, surfing, word etc...
prime95 takes it towards 90c on a desk where after about 5 mins its starts throtlling down. The Nvidia is around 60c (which it already was with the 8400) so it doesn't seem to pick-up much adjacent heat. Mind u the SSD saves an huge amount of heat oppossed to the factory 7200rpm drive

So overall i'm quite happy, i will go play with throttlestop, though i don't need to be full throttle all time, would like my throthling to stay in place in order to keep stuff cool, but i might want to check how high i can set the multiplier at full speed. For me speed isn't about sustained huge powerlevels, it's about burts when needed and can use low speed when not noticed in order to maintain temps, i.e. surfing @ 800mhz is fine.

I've noticed though that you can shave off 5-6c degrees by increasing the space between bottom fans and surface the notebook is standing on, so that the airgap becomes bigger. They should have given this laptop those flips you see on the back of keyboards in order to lift tilt, would have been a killer app for increasing airflow. maybe i just order some rubber adhesive feet from ebay.
increasing the space between the bottom of the laptop and the desk it's on with 1cm on the backside gives a drop of about 3c. If i use the laptop stationary removing the battery can drop temps even further. but then again, everything works and i've not yet experienced obstructive throthling

I also might get a new screen from Dell, I've but in a complaint about the dullness of my current screen. (my screen looks at maximum brightness nearly as dull as my WXGA+ screen at minimum brightness) let's see what they come back with.

just finished the phone vwith tech support, getting a new screen as well :)
curious if they will provide the WXGA+ now as it seems that the older screens are no longer available, top service i have to say (3 years NBD onsite)

Just ordered a copper mod plate for my Nvidia GPU as well,
the X9100 behaves well now the AS5 starts to cure, idle normal surfing temps 29-31c :D Very happy with that, even lower than my 25W P8400 :D

The GPU idles around late 50ties though, so the mod should shave off a few degrees there.

Also ordered a Zalman 3000u Notebook cooler, as it just looks cool and gives additional flow when stationary.

Just found out my screen is the SAMSUNG SEC5441, which is supposed to be LED, i find it a bit dull though, let's see what the engineer will take with him next week. Just need to make sure that i don't shoot myself in the foot with a lesser screen, as my panel is not marked as LED on my asset tag

ThnX, i'm quite impressed with it myself, performance is Extremely good :D

the Intel 320 SSD stays as cool as the chassis (this helps), the x9100 seems to manage heat pretty well, despite the 45w max rating
The copper mod (got a 1mm plate especially made for the Nvidia NV160) should bring good results as well. might try the NOCTUA paste instead of the AS5 to see if that shaves off a couple of more degrees
got both AS5, NOCTUA & Zalman paste laying around

already got a LED screen, when the engineer will come, i will have a luxury problem of either getting a new LED or refuse the normal panel (he still needs to replace my bezel as it is cracked at the right bottom) so things are good, this beauty is ready for a couple of more years :D

personally i've had good experience with MX2 and MX3 over the past few years. suggest maxing out the gpu and cpu with benchmarks while monitoring temps closely, just so that you know it wont die on you during gaming or something. a lot of these smaller business machines are designed for bursts of high performance operation, not extended periods

just ordered 2 Intel 5300AGN cards, I still had the 1391abg in there which had mediocre connections with my Dlink dir-655, now time to enjoy 300Mbit
