iv been looking around the and everyone says dell will only cover damage and not theft

this is quite worrying as i ordered a m6400 maxed out and its just to much to lose out on

surely this is false advertising ?

Theft is a completely different issue than damage. There are many other aspects involved with theft, e.g. police reports and fraud. I'm sure Dell very understandably leaves coverage of theft to the experts in covering theft and other losses: insurance companies. Check with your insurance agent - a rider for a laptop can be purchased with many homeowners' insurance policies.

It would only be false advertising if Dell claimed that they covered theft, but actually didn't. Or are you referring to false advertising by others against Dell?

I've purchased CompleteCare on my systems, but never saw anything about theft coverage. However, given what you have shown on your order, it sure appears that you do have theft coverage. Maybe this is something that differs between systems offered in the U.S. and the U.K.?

If you are unsure, or have concerns, your best bet is to contact Dell. If you call, try to get something in writing. Otherwise, at least make a note of the name and employee ID # of the person you spoke with, along with when you called. Otherwise use the email or online chat options, from which you can at least save electronic copies of the communication.

If Dell has sold you CompleteCare with theft coverage, and if they later refuse to acknowledge a theft claim, this would be more of a breach of contract than false advertising.

Dell will use LoJack to help recover your laptop, but that is NOT theft insurance.

That is what Dell states in their policy that they do for theft. Nothing about claims.

That being said, if you purchase the "Premium Edition" of LoJack you might be eligible for a $1000 insurance claim.

As always, homeowners or renters insurance on computer equipment is the best way to go for actually covering 100% of the loss.

that would mean i would have to chose to buy it , its an insurance company they use and it wont be cheap as i bet it uses a gps and gprs module for locating it

but if it does have lo jack all the better !

You did pay for the other parts of the warranty, all is not lost by any means. You have accidental coverage, which will take care of you if you drop the notebook. That costs a pretty penny.

You could always call Dell up and ask for a refund on the LoJack option, since you were misled. But don't push that they didn't properly inform you, since all that is on the web (just difficult to find). Actually, reading up on your last post you might want to call Dell period and see what is going on. It sounds like you should have Lojack installed already.

You know, this is actually the best answer to the OPs question. I simply don't get why people who have questions of that nature would go to a public forum, asking these kinds of questions to people of completely unknown identity, qualification, and competence, and start complaining about fraudulent advertising even before they see any answers. Why in the world would you not simply give Dell a call? Of course, you might also consider simply looking up the detailed specifications for the product or service that you have bought. Dell does clearly state these for everything they sell. Sheesh...
