I've experienced the same. At the moment I have two E6400s here. My older E6400 always achieved 3.5 and 1850 in 3DMark06 with nvidia 176,53. My new Device only achieved 3.3 in Vista and only 1630 in 3dmark06. After Installing the new nvidia Driver (180,...) the scores raised to 3.4 and 1850. I am also using a smooth scrolling plug-in for mozilla. websites were moving really well and smoothly (no matter how complex they were or which energy-option I was using) but for some reason it doesn't seem to work so smoothly on my new device as it was working on my older one. they are some moments where the scrolling seems to work perfectly but I don't know which settings/drivers effect this performanceon the new e6400 . btw the plug-in is called "yet another smooth scrolling", really nice and helpful add-on when it works correctly :) does anyone experienced something same ?

can you do me a favor and check whether or not you have fan sensors reporting with GPU-Z with the 180.xx series driver installed? http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/ once you run it as admin, go to sensors, and see if anything other than clock speeds and temperature report. thanks in advance.

only clock speeds and temperature are listed in gpu-z. don't worry, this seems to be common

I see it under "productivity package" on Dell SMB -- I don't have enough posts to put up the URL but it's not hard to find.

it isn't common. in fact, i am 99% sure it signifies a problem with the driver. have you attempted to run a game at high graphics mode for a while? the gpu will think that it is overheating. if you install the dell provided driver, both GPU-Z and NVIDIA system tools properly report the fans and allow you to change the cooling profile (nvidia sys tools).

new problem (and it may only be me, or only be related to e6500s) -- does anyone notice that since the A09 bios update the battery is charging VERY VERY slowly?

edit -- if anyone has an e6500 using bios A09 that is NOT experiencing this issue, please also comment.

I see no charge problem with my E6400 and A09 BIOS. It is better for me since the trickle charge problem with the 65W PSU has disappeared.

that makes me really think it is the change of BIOS if it solved your trickle charge problem and created on for me on the e6500 with the normal 90W adapter. if anyone is or is not experiencing this on the e6500, let me know! :)

There is a setting in the BIOS that controls how fast the battery should be charged, normal speed or faster ExpressCharge. Maybe you had it set to ExpessCharge before and now it has been reset to normal?

BTW, laptop manufacturers seem to be more conservative with fast charging nowadays. Lenovo was e.g. critized last year for the slow charging speed of their new T61 laptops. Slower charging speed is good for battery lifetime and I guess the manufacaturers would like to minimize warranty claims.

i have my e6400 for a view days now and i am pretty happy with it. especially the backlit keyboard is neat. build quality is okay, i hope it will stand the test of time as well as my old hp notebook.
the control point software is a bit annoying, but okay. the touchbad is really not the best but i use a mouse anyway. i have had the problem with the mouse pointer animation, but the registry fix repaired that. sound is okay, also with the dell drivers. no stuttering. the harddisk (250gb, 7200rpm) clicks sometimes. the rest seems fine.
the only thing that is not workling right now is the pre boot authentification with the fingerprint reader. in windows it works, but if i want to enroll preboot fingerprints in the security software i have to enter the system password - but the text box refuses to take any characters. you see it flash for a split second then it is empty again. anybody has the same problem?
