I am having problems with consistent BSOD on startup in Vista on my Latitude e6400 similar to that described on the last post of Page 85 and also on 86 of this forum.

Basically, startup - loads up Intel storage manager and BIOS; gets to the green scrolling bar initiating vista then quickly flashes a BSOD and restarts!

Does the same thing in safe-mode. Express diagnostics so far have been okay.

Funny thing is, I haven't installed anything new and if I keep trying after a half dozen or so reboots and BSODS - it starts up fine! And works fine!!!

Any ideas? I have run system restore and Vista startup repair using the DVD.

Take my advice with a grain of salt, since I don't even have my E6400 yet.

But I went through a very similar experience at great length with my Lenovo T61. What can happen is that you can get a mismatch between the AHCI mode (set in the BIOS) and the Intel storage manager. This can happen in a few different ways, one possibility is that the BIOS setting has changed to an incompatible setting for AHCI. The thing I would do is go in the BIOS when it starts up and make sure that it is set correctly.

I just got my E6400 today - with the nvidia quattro 160 i get an 3.5 on vista experience index.

is it normal that the screen appears not really clear at the first moment ? is there a special initial setup i should be aware of as power user [mobile and at work/home]

    thank you

    Guido

I had a lot of BSOD issues with my e6400 Vista 64. Turned out to be completely related to the Creative webcam drivers. Now I have removed the ones from the Dell site, and I choose not to install the ones from Windows Update. Machine has been rock solid ever since.

    Hope this helps.

You should not need to do any special setup. Is the display resolution setting correct? Which display do you have?

For the scratching plastic, I called Dell tech support, and its covered under the warranty as "manufacture error on the plastic". The part are ordered and as soon as they get them, they will me for a taking an appointment to have them replace it for me. Alternatively you can do it yourself. However, I know that removing the palm rest requires to disassemble the whole thing so I prefer them to do it. I don't know if that will work after a year, thus.
Anyway, I'll order that sheet thing, and use that with the new palm reset and screen frame. The technician said "sure, if you think it will stop the problem" and after asking why he says that, he says that himself he has the very same machine and has the same issue.

After running the latest Windows Update (Vista business x64) i receive BSOD after reboot. After I restore to an earlier restore point, everything is ok. I've tried several times, with the same result.

    The latest updates consists of:
    KB957321
    KB959108
    KB959130

Does anyone have any info on this?

I tried running the updates after updating the bios to A09, and the touchpad/pointing device to the latest driver, without any change, still BSOD.

    All help is appreciated! :)

    Nooo!

Don't do it! Technicians will destroy your E6400 more when trying to repair it. They did so for my M4400.

:( Good luck, I hope you get a good tech.

No worries on the testing at the moment, I am about to go into finals as well, and won't be using it for playing games until at least december 18th. My real question is whether you get fan sensor information (and if you wouldnt mind just running GPU-Z just to see, it should show up in the sensors panel if it is working correctly). I have a feeling that it has nothing to do with me, and the inf needs to be modified to get it to read the sensor correctly. even with Dox's customized inf, I still cannot use nvidia system tools to modify the cooling, or see the fan info under GPU-Z.

hi all, I haven't found anyone asking if there any owners out there with the rarer WXGA LED screen (with or without privacy feature -- the one without just popped up on Dell's website a few days ago)?

Wondering how it compares to the WXGA+ LED screen -- my eyes are finicky and I like the dpi of the WXGA much better, but I also greatly prefer LED. I doubt anyone has both to do a side by side comparison but any comments on the WXGA LED screen are greatly welcome.
