So you'd say the graphics performance is good enough and it actually has a longer lifetime than the nvidia card?

I'm probably looking at purchasing from the outlet, and it's very difficult to find a system with the specs I want and an integrated card. Is there something to be said for the increased capabilities of the nvidia card? (eg, I may do some light gaming...) Is the heat difference really noticeable under basic word processing/web browsing?

 

under normal tasks, you wont notice a heat difference. the performance of the nvidia card is somewhere in between the 9300m/9400m.

im not convinced the nvidia gpu in the e series is going to fail/is faulty. its based on the newer G98 design.

IMO the only thing to consider would be the decresed battery life, and if the performance benefit is worth it for you. for example, if you dont play games at all, or run 3d intensive apps, you dont need the nvidia card.

This depends on the components in your E6400 and what you are doing on the computer. Which CPU, GPU and hard disk do you have?

With a P series CPU, Intel graphics and 5400rpm hard drive, up to 6 hours of light usage with a dim backlight is possible.

Hello! I am running into a problem with my Dell E6400 (XP, Intel 5300 AGN vPro card using a Buffalo WBR2-G54 router). I was curious if anyone else had run into the same issue and if they had corrected it. The laptop struggles to connect to the router when booted, so I'll do a repair and it will connect. After some time, the signal doesn't drop (I am only a few feet away from the router), but the wireless connection stops working. I can still ping sites via the cmd dialog but cannot connect.

Here are the things I've done to try and remedy the issue:

- Updated Bios to A11

- Replaced the original Intel 5300 AGN with the vPro card that is in it now. Both have the same problem

- Updated drivers to those from Dell - http://is.gd/emOz

- Updated drivers to those form Intel - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17156

- Reset winsock - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

Additionally, there are two other laptops that are running wirelessly off the same router, flawlessly. Anyone have any ideas?

I wonder whether the problem lies with Windows. Is your XP SP3? Is the XP a Dell factory installation or your own?
