My idle temps for CPU Core 1/2 are usually 30 C when the fan is running at 3000 RPM as it usually does. When the fan is not running (temp of chipset < 45 C) the idle temps of CPU Core 1/2 are 35-40 C. These temperatures are measured with I8kfanGI 3.1 and HWMonitor 1.12. I have an E6400 with P8600 CPU and Intel graphics.

Heheh. Can't blame me for asking... Thanks for reassuring me guys. Guess this laptop is really good then. Good temps, decent graphics, and good battery life: mine lasted slightly over 3h30m with Vista hibernating at 6% or 5% (couldn't tell), Aero and Sidebar on, Wireless and Bluetooth on, screen always on at 2 clicks from bottom. And an external USB mouse plugged in.

I believe that the Dell ones are an entire cable, whereas you still need a DVI cable with that adapter.

Finally got my E6400 today and it's been great so far. Had a BSOD restart BSOD loop earlier on but a system restore has sorted that out.

A couple of questions though. The left mouse button for the track point. Does anyone else's have a crack sound when it's pushed. Maybe not a crack but a creak sort of noise. Doesn't happen on the trackpad's button and is less severe on the right trackpoint mouse button.

What's the general WEI score for the aero experience for a 160M? I get 3.4 which seems kinda low.

    1) WEI is a crappy measure of performance.CPU, RAM, HDD, and GPU included. Take it with a very large grain of salt.
    2) NVS160 is a bit faster than an 8400M. You should be seeing 3DMark05 in the 3000 range and 3DMark06 in the upper 1000 range.

It seemed like a easy way to gauge performance without having to download and install more software!

just as a reminder, you can increase your battery life with a combination of windows power events monitor (http://sourceforge.net/projects/windowspowereve), vista battery saver (which works in both win7 and vista, at least for its basic functionality) some simple batch scripts using devcon, and for another boost, ultramon to set a profile to decrease the color depth to 16 and reduce the refresh to 40Hz. It is a bit convoluted, but each program uses hardly any memory, and helps to increase the battery life quite nicely.

side note -- if anyone does install vista battery saver (which is quite useful), it seems to stall when installing, but if you just close the taskbar icon that it creates and shut down the program, it finishes without a hitch.
