Yes, other than the three discs, there is nothing else in that box.

Yes, they are required to send hardware with it.
Dell is greener now, so no manual :rolleye:, everything is online.
As for your Windows problem... you have a refurbished machine Dell just check if everything is inside, and replaces broken components. I don't think they format and re-install the OS. Or maybe it was miss-installed.

The part is free, and shipping paid on both directions... You can do it yourself, or ask Dell to get someone come when you want at the time you want to change it for you, in front of you (if you have next business day onsite service). I would do it. You lose nothing!

any advice on cleaning the screen? there was what appeared to be a scratch/smudge on it, so i tried to clean it with a piece of toilet paper, and it seems like my finger print (?) got on it somehow.

I went through the same thing last week via chat. It's a shame they waste so much time trying to convince people that it's not x64 capable. The good news is that they'll next day ship that disk, you should get it Monday.

No, it's not that. It's because Dell knows that a lot of people have ultra peripherals, where Vista 32 and 64-bit drivers don't exists. But under Vista 32-bit you can put XP 32-it drivers (well on the 64-bit vista you can do the same with XP 64-bit drivers but that is rare to find).

But in reality this laptop run best on Vista 64-bit.

I think they have to reimage the drive, otherwise the previous owner's files may still be on it.

On a different note, is Control Point Manager not available for Vista 64? Thanks.

WOW and you did not scratch the screen... you are lucky!
For a perfect clean without any scratch:
    - NEVER use high level alcohol (this destroys the plastic)
    - Never spray liquid directly onto the LCD (it will go IN (between the display plastic screen) and then you are screwed!)
    - Don't use tap water (leaves streaks)
    - Do not use dust repelling (it leaves a product on to the screen, and if not properly applied it will be visible, also hard to remove)
    - NEVER apply pressure... rub gently several time. Pressing hard will make particle of the fabric which are harder scratch the surface.
    - NEVER use toilet paper, tissues, paper towels. These may contain large wood fibers which can do deep scratches onto the screen.
    - DO NOT use a lot of cleaning product. You just want enough to have a cleaning cloth humid.
    - DO NOT use Windex and cleaning glass product alike.
    - DO NOT use ammonia.
    - Use LINT free cloth, like a high-quality micro-fabric, which needs to be maintained in a dust free environment (else large dust particle will pile up and then scratch your screen).

You must remember: LCD screens are not like ordinary monitor screens. LCD screens are NOT GLASS, rather they are made up of a soft film that can easily be damaged by harsh paper towels and the chloride and other chemicals in ordinary tap water.

To clean properly use LCD cleaning solution or 50% distilled water and 50% of 70% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol). If you don't how to measure or too scare, use less isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol is used to remove dirt. Less is always better. Using less will be harder to remove dirt but will remove fingerprints. Use nothing to remove dust (I mean just distilled water).

Using distilled water should evaporate fairly quickly, so no drying really necessary. On shelf good cleaning solutions are alcohol and ammonia-free, which is best, but more expensive, also comes with a proper cloth.

Now, something you need to remember. YOU CANNOT REMOVE SCRATCHES. Almost all these scratch removal product are all bogus, and even make things worse. Do they really suck? No, they work... but the thing is that it all depends on how the plastic was made. Making a magical formula for all plastic is impossible. Another problem is that the screen is not glossy.. meaning you can reproduce the texture of the screen, so the product, even if did work, would be useless. BTW, a laptop LCD is freaking expensive (probably not in reality... but it's hard to buy at low price a everyone wants to make a high profit)
