Hey folks, just got my outlet E6400 today.

    A couple quick points:

    - Four days between order and delivery
(Dell never gave me the tracking number in the end)
    - No documentation or installation media was included
    - Big green "Refurbished" sticker on the underside
    - Base cover REALLY hard to get off :(
    - 80GB, 7200RPM HDD was a Seagate 7200.3
    - AUO screen slightly less faded than my previous SEC
    - Nvidia heatsink different from Intel heatsink

After initially running Prime95 to check my undervolt settings, I have not had the fan come on once in the past three hours. Idle temps float in the mid-forties; the entire machine is perceptibly cooler than my Quadro-based unit. RMClock estimates idle power draw to be under 10W with WiFi active and lowest brightness.

So far very happy with the refurb.

I have LED screen and indeed they are noticable but in such un-normal position ... I mean I have to stand up above screen (screen is in 90 degree angle to base of laptop and I am looking directly from top) looking top down on it (o course due to vertical viewing angles you dont see picture correctly) then I can see that bottom-left corner and bottom-right corner a bit of bright white light BUT this is never noticable when I am normally in front of laptop , as in normal use. You wont notice this when you are working on laptop or even sitting, standing next to it. You have to look from direct top to notice those. In other words it isn't visible normally.

Well, all stickers are, and I didn't notice any scratch any other tear-and-wear on system. Even Vista was asking 'first-boot' questions. Keyboard is 'production-clean'. Person who was in contact with me selling it said that those laptops are comming from 're-send's' from customers who did change mind in not more than one week. I dont know is that true but all stuff with it and laptop itself seems and feels pefectly new. Sticking problem is due to material that was used for palmrest I can compare to THinkpads where there is rough plastic - this plastic ensures that hands do not stick but when you take away hands you wil notice moisture (sweat) on it.

My E6400 is running XP with the default IDT audio drivers that came preinstalled. I have been recently having a problem with it. After I watch a few videos on youtube (or anything that uses flash like HULU.com) the audio suddenly quits. Even if I open another program like iTunes or WMP, i can't hear anything and I have to reboot. Anyone have a solution? Thanks! PS i'm not exactly sure how to tell which driver version i have. Maybe.....5.10.0.6017?

My IDT audio driver is 5.10.0.6124. This was released in December and fixed a few bugs (although I don't recognise your problem).

You should be able to find the latest audio driver (and all the other relevant drivers) by going to the Dell download site and inputting your service tag.

Is there a way to tell if you have the LED screen?

My order says: 14.1 inch Widescreen WXGA LED Display - Brush Metal Black

But I've heard stories of Dell advertising LED but actually sent out CCFL.

Oh yeah, how do you use the privacy screen? I tried FN + E and it did nothing. Do I need any drivers for it?

    Thanks!

AFAIK the 1440x900 screens are all LED. That might help.

My 1440x900 is a LED one. I checked on mine. If you remove the screen frame, you can notice that there is no transformer (a long rectangle circuit), as LED don't need one, and that if you remove the screen, there is only 1 component... the screen (LED are inside the screen), and the screen itself pretty thin too.
