I checked the monitor id using Everest:

It seems like my monitor (1280x800) was made by LG? I thought only the 1440x900 displays were made by LG?

Judging by that, I guess it's safe to say that I have an LED display?

Not sure why I doubted that in the first place. I suppose since it's not a glossy screen, it looks like an older laptop screen to me. But matte is better since it doesn't have reflections like glossy.

Can anyone with an LED display post their Everest monitor results? It would be interesting to compare.

well i just got mine from dell today and have been playing with it for a few hours and just comparing it to my thinkpad t61p with sxga+.

    just a few notes:
    - there is some flex from the keyboard
    - i love the screen. i got the 1440 x 900 back lit LED screen. looks awesome. way better than the thinkpad. i compared both power save modes on both laptops and the e6400 was simply a lot easier to look at and work with. i take my laptop to school a lot and i don't bring my charger. i can see myself just comfortably typing notes on this thing. it's easier on the eyes. Yes I know I can adjust brightness on the thinkpad but i was just literally comparing power save modes on both laptops.
    - trackpoint is not up to the thinkpad. it takes a bit more work for to get where you want. on the thinkpad it is just seemless without thinking almost.
    - along the lines of the trackpoint, the dell doesn't have the elevated left/right buttons. this makes it much easier, while using the trackpoint, to select the object of choice.
    - as noted from many other threads, speakers suck.
    - i like the battery life. so far i am 82% with wifi, backlit keyboard on in power saver mode and the battery gauge says i got 4 hours and 31 minutes left. i get about 4.5 hours from my thinkpad total.
    - the volume button on the e6400 isn't as smooth to adjust as compared to the thinkpad.
    - actually i got this system with vista business and i've always used xp. so far i like it.
    - this laptop is drop dead sexy. i love the layout of the laptop. it's simple and clean while the thinkpad layout is simple but very dull looking.

all in all i like this computer, especially for $611 shipped. I need to add the 1gb of memory though as my system only came with 1gb. I will most likely keep it and sell the thinkpad. hopefully i get use to the trackpoint. that's probably my only gripe right now. the flex on the keyboard, i'm not that concerned with.

ok, this is getting really annoying. oftentimes when i try to open up something (audio/video) with WMP, there will be an error (a problem with my audio device or something), and a red X will show up by my audio icon.

it says its a DHCP client error or something like that (ive seen it happen because of security center service stopping working too), its driving me nuts!ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, but that doesnt work. any ideas whats going on? how could services like security center or dhcp cause my audio to fail? using vista 64 business.

    Hi everyone,

So I just got my e6400 from the outlet, and it looks Brand New in perfect condition.

However, I was just checking the display to see which one I got, and under the hardware ID it says "CMO1436". My questions are, who manufactures this display, and is it any good compared to the LG?

I had ordered an e6400 about a month ago which I had to return for another reason, but it had the LG panel in it and it seemed much brighter... although the colors seem more accurate on this... but I dont have them side by side to compare.

Anyone have any thoughts on which is better... I love this computer, but wondering if it's worth it to have someone come out to do a display swap under warranty.

    2) Also, my fan doesn't seem to turn off at all... its constantly on... I have a P9500 CPU with Intel Integrated Graphics... any idea what might be causing this?

Any and all advice or help is truly appreciated!

CMO is normally an OK brand for LCD displays. The LG display is very bright at full brightness - I normally run mine at around half brightness.

The CPU fan running continuously is not right. First try Fn+Z to reset the temperature sensors. Otherwise the cause is either (i) something is loading the CPU or (ii) the CPU runs hot or (iii) the heat sink isn't properly fitted.

You can look in the performance page in Task Manager to see the CPU usage. This should be well under 10% when the computer is idle. If it is more, then look at the processes page to see what processes are loading the CPU.

You can use I8kfanGUI or HWmonitor to check the temperatures. The former will also show the fan speed. CPU idle temperatures should be below 40C with the fan off. If it is hotter and the fan is on then I wonder whether the heat isn't being removed properly.

    John

BTW, Yesterday my E6400 has passed the milestone of 6 months hard labour.

    Ok this require emergency measurements!
To maximize the help, I would need full details n what you do to get these problem and exact error messages. You must understand that when a device stop working, this is Vista that kicks in and restart it or kill it so that you don't get a Blue screen.
For the audio, you have one of the audio services that stop working. To fix this problem, open services.msc (Win key and type services.msc). You have 2 services. The first Windows Audio, Windows Audio Enspoint, and Andrea ST Filter.
On all of these, perform the following:
    - Double click on the item.
    - Ensure that they are running and set to Automatic.
    - Then go the 'Recovery' tab.
    - On First, second, subsequent fails, set to restart the service.

This should patch your problem. I had this problem with the latest Intel Active Matrix Drivers. I suggest to use the older version, which is found here: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=41&fileid=261249
(make sure you uninstall the old one and restart your computer first)

    Then do this:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=349173

This should also fix any potential latency issue.

See if this also fix your second problem (I need more details to help you on that one).

I keep having BSOD with 0x00009087 (2-3 in last two weeks). Windbg blames iastor.sys
I have installed the latest DE17 for my HDD and also the latest Matrix Storage Manager (8. january) from Dell site.

    I'm running WinXP 32bit. P9500, 4GB RAM, Intel graphics.

    Any additional advice?
