Just have to say, my 700m arrived about 4 months after the product launch, and is still going today!!!

Screen in a bit loose, case is cracked in a few places and the pain job is f*cked. the battery no longer holds ANY charge, even for a second, the keyboard almost has no letters on the keys anymore. and the matte-ness of the touch pad has been worn to a nice smooth shine:p

but hey it can still play guildwars when called upon! solid machine much love 700M

Isnt that just about the old problem with the G84 GPU's?
Ofcourse its embarrassing for Nvidia but I thought it was a material problem that they have fixed in the later models. Please let me know if I have missed something.

Im also very interested to hear what you other people think of the new drivers for the 160m card? Which one is the best?

Is the the new Dell driver good enough or should you go for the drivers on laptopvideo2go. I have heard of some problems with the 185.20 just for the e6400, but it seems to work fine on the e6500?!.

This was just a faulty GPU. It could happen. Heck Intel is guilty of the same thing and STILL not fixed the problem on the Intel Core 2 Duo.. here the power manager of the chip makes a high-pitch noise when you are close to it, when your system is plugged-in, high power and do your nothing. Actually it took companies like Dell, HP etc.. to find solution to by-pass the problem and reduce the problem significantly. Intel denies this problem (probably their hearing sucks). Don't believe me... just stop the system fan, close all programs, and listen with your ear next to the keyboard.

At least Nvidia ADMITs a problem.
As for the solution... it's Dell that doesn't want to do a recall, so that the new non-buggy GPUs from Nvidia gets put in.
And again this was with the G84 series. The Quadro uses the G92 chip.

Also the inquire has 99% of their news false... so I would not them as a valid source in anything. They just happen to be lucky here.

thanks for the inputs Vikram and John. Well, to be honest, actually I purchased the RAM from ebay!. I guess Ill just return it and get one from a reputable seller.

Thanks for the suggestion John. However, my current situation doesnt permit me to do research on my cpu as works are piling up as we speak. Ill just get a new compatible RAM from a reputable etailer (newegg, here I come) and since I bought it through ebay, there's a big chance that its a fake RAM. Im returning it to get my 17 bucks back!

Thanks again for all the inputs and cheers!

Id have to say that my 700m was a beast! I used to run all sort of heavy taxed programs like proE, ansys etc2 and it runs fine. Its just that Ive finally decided to get a faster lappy because of the Matlab batch files that Ive created couldnt run that fast on single core laptop anymore.

my 700m is still running and Id say with no problem whatsoever in terms of hardware in the past 3 years (Ive had it crashed on me due to software/malware/virus 3 times already, but thats not because of the laptop itself) its one of the most rugged ultra portable laptop and from reviews Ive read (doesnt make sense to read reviews when Ive already have the product for 3 years) people have been happy with the laptop. mine also has that shiny keyboard thing from long term use but everything else is still top notch, xcept for the stain on the left hand palm rest due to the heat from the HD (like a burn stain because my hand presses on the palm rest, makes it closer to the HD heat).

In summary, Ive been reallyx10 happy and satisfied with all my dell experiences. The E6400 arrived in just 3 days!. Previously, I tried buying an X200 from Lenovo outlet, and you know the rest of the story. I placed an order a MONTH ago, and everytime I called for the status of my order, the CS will tell me that the laptop will be shipped the next week. This kept repeating over and over again until a month passed by and I still didnt get my laptop. Last I called, the supervisor even raised her voice at me and at that moment I thougt "that's it" . Cancelled my order and went to Dell instead and have never been so pleased with the service they offer. Sorry for the rant and no, I dont work with Dell. Im just a very pleased customer. Cheeers!!:D
