Is it better than the D820? What's the point of switching of the quality is worse?

What hardware config did that have?

I've been impressed by how cool and quiet my E6400 is (P8600 + Intel graphics).

I can understand your thinking. My wife is a school teacher and has had a MAC notebook for a while and I have been very impressed with the build quality and battery life.

If I end up returning the notebook they are sending out it will be the fourth. I ordered a D830 but returned 2 due to very poor screens. After working on a D620 for the past year it is very frustrating to see the build quality actually go in reverse when the price goes up.

It's an option (the weight-saver module). Did you include it in the order?

I think serious build quality issues are in the minority but there are a few little details where Dell could have done slightly better.

Remember that people usually join forums because they have problems.

This is bizarre. So to be sure, I reinstalled XP again, and sure enough, even with the CPU at full throttle, I do not get this high pitched noise. I can't imagine what the difference would be, but in Vista the noise is unavoidable - even after experimenting with manually controlling/disabling the stepping with other tools, and disabling all other forms of power management and extraneous devices I could.

Could someone with the P9500 and Vista installed try the above and let me know if they hear anything?

first of all, it is at least equal... and what's the point of switching? I don't mean to be sarcastic... but there have been some improvements since the Dx20 lines.....

Improvements: LED Screens, backlit keyboards, newer array of ports, docks that support two DVI or HDMI outputs, newer processors/tech, better battery life, chassis that are more solid (or so we hope).
