Normal. Windows index your HDD, or perform maintenance very slowly to not affect your computer usage. Just ignore it, don't expect it to go away until you go on battery mode.

If it is really problematic for you, you can see how to overclock (easy to do) it:
The overclocking should be be different, but you have to test and see.

I need to correct something on what I said:
Someone ask what was the max resolution of the video card, here is the value:
    Max Digital Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200
    Max Analog Screen Resolution 2048 x 1536

Oh no sorry, you are correct. But don't worry about it. It should not affect battery life.

If it's indeed the indexation and not some other service, then you can set it to off in the power plan when running on battery power. It's in the advanced list of settings for each power plan.

Is it an ultra faith flash or is a strong one. If it's faith one than it's nothing. It's just the SATA controller at work doing wtv it has to do. Remember that the HDD light is more than just disk activity... it's the hard drive controller one as well. This is why some people argue the removal of the light to "decrease" the sensitivity of when it needs to be turn on.

If it's bright flashes when you do nothing, than that could be the OS execute maintenance task or indexing, or a program that you use.

Hey all just wanted to give you an update. I got my swapped out Latitude today. You may remember some of my gripes over the past few weeks about my unit, specifically the hard drive sounding lound and on all the time (louder than a fan). Anyway I kept the WXGA+ screen as I finally got used to it and man does it have a nie advantage in web browsing so you don't have to left or right scroll and also less scrolling in general. Now everything on lower resolutions looks sort of crappy, albeit larger, not nearly as clear. I downgraded from the 7200RPM HDD and the 5200 HDD is DEAD SILENT compared to the 7200 I had before. The only downside to the 5200 RPM HDD that I can realize is that it takes maybe 7 seconds longer at system startup haha, if that bothers you then you should go w/ the 7200, if you don't like a constant loud fan-like sound, go for the 5200!

Also I got the integrated graphics card vs. the nvidia and combined, my system is super cool, doesn't seem to work hard, and you can barely hear that it's on! Please check out my updated signature which is the specs of what I have now. Pretty psyched up and now I really like this unit a lot after getting a slightly different unit. I HIGHLY recommend getting the intel integrated graphics card and the 5200 RPM HD. Finally, I downsized to the 6 cell battery from the 9 cell and it is NOTICEABLY lighter IMO. so much better. a lot more sleek and portable now, and the life is not much less than the 9 cell IMO. An informative system review is forthcoming!

I disabled all of the above services (see link), the "problem" persists. I think it's just vista doing its thing...as goodbytes suggested. Also i'm absolutely certain that i have no viruses or spyware, and that it's not caused by some other program running in the background. Anyways, the system works perfectly, fast and without any noticeable slowdown. I'll just ignore the blinking.

I did the check on my desktop test computer (old computer with XP), the same problem exists. It has SATA HDD. My guess is it's just the SATA controller.
