Not sure if anyone has updated:

    6cell + 14.1" WXGA CCFL + Travel-Lite Module + no fingerprint reader + Intel X4500 + single platter HDD: 2249g

Add Cool Slice to the above: 2454g (+205g)

    Add 8x DVD-RW to the above: 2592g (+138g)

That said, a 'typical' configuration will weight about 2.4kg, much more than a calculated weight based on Dell's 1.95kg (4cell + weight saver) spec.

Evidently not. The front edge of the display is two inches further forwards than those pads and there's no other support on the front edge to stop the hard surfaces from colliding if the front edge is squeezed a bit during transport.

That is a little heavier that what I measured (2.31kg - see my review for details).

Well, there are a few potential solutions that I think are worth exploring...

    1) Use clear sticker paper along the entire palmrest, like those Invisible Shields. I'm attempting that myself.

    2) Install thin pads around various points of the LCD bezel or palm rest. Not too sure about what will happen with the glue and a palm rest, but I have two spare E6400 palm rests now that I can experiment on.

I've found some scrapbooking clear sticker paper from Avery, and I'm ordering a few sets of paper today (as soon as I can remember to do so).

If someone could point me towards some padding that I can attempt to use on a blank palm rest, I could maybe try that out if it is cheap enough for me to get.

I ought to see if there is a way that I can get access to a laser cutter, maybe print out a bunch of these and let people mail order them from me...

There's more than just comparing the CPUs. The chipsets and GPUs use a lot more power. That's the area where Intel put a lot of effort in the Montevina development since Santa Rosa was a disappointment in this respect. Also, TDPs don't mean much in the battery life context unless you are planning to heavily load the CPU when running on battery. It's how little power it uses on idle which is more important.
I was thinking of a few small pads of black electrical tape near the inside edge of the top part of the display bezel. Anything on the palm rest has to be more durable. I'm just looking for something softer to push against the palm rest.

Has anyone figured out a fix for the mouse skipping every few seconds? I've tried both with and without the dell alps driver and with turning touch check off. I'm running vista ultimate. This is starting to get pretty annoying.

It's the great Alps touchpad, at it again!

Some people on here are going to defend it, but those touchpads suck (and it isn't just driver related - see your case).

    Synaptics FTW!!

I have zero touchpad problems (with XP). After a year of Vista I decided to go back to XP. I can't think of anything useful that I'm missing.
