If it isn't anywhere then maybe it isn't installed. Do you have a Dell factory installation of Windows?

Get the software from the Dell download site.

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been there much lately because.... well I was playing with my new E6400!! Finally got it!

Overall I am quite satisfied with the quality of the build I got:
    • The thing is built like a tank. Feels very solid. Much more than my Clevo 17"; It also feels heavier that it really is. But I put it on a balance. 5.1 lbs with ODD, 4.7lbs without.
    • Quality seems top notch; everything on mine is perfect! The battery wiggles just a notch, but it's the way its designed. Bottom cover is a1 and it sits solidly on its feet.
    • Screen is perfect. Go with the WXGA+ LCD. Actually the color "fading" isn't that bad. Noticeable only at full brightness. Wanna see a screen that suck? Check the Inspiron 1525. This one is sharp. Resolution is perfect.
    • Sound for the built-in speakers suck. Literaly. My Clevo had like 4 speakers and a mini sub and it showed. This E6400 isn't a business machine for nothing. Will try the output tonight though.
    • Everything stays cool; HD (got a seagate momentus 7200.3) is almost quiet. Yeah maybe is not really well isolated from the chassis; I can barely feel a vibration. Could have been better with this particular HDD.
    • I don't know if they changed the ODD, but mine is not that loud. Will try burning tonight.
    • Keyboard backlight is great!
    • Battery life is awesome! You can strech it to 5-6 hours on the standard 6 cells!

    That's all for now!

For those who are reconsidering, don't! My only regret is that the colors are just out! It's a well built laptop!

I have a question for owners... I am very much considering to buy this computer. But I am not sure which HDD to get. I know people have linked to a page that compares different HDD's, but since Dell does not even write what brand or anything then it doesn't really help me.

160 GB is enough space for me, but will it be a better one if I order another capacity. I have heard that there is some vibration from the 7200 Rpm drive. What are recommendations? I was thinking to go with a normal 160GB 5400 Rpm, but if anyone has an opinion I would very much like to hear it!

A negligible amount if any - I have absolutely no heat problems, and I have the nvidia chip as well. If anything, it runs cooler than my 600m for normal web/wireless use, which is impressive, considering it's been a while since I've handled a laptop other than the 600m I would be willing to use in my lap. It's one of my favorite things about the E6400 so far (sitting back in a recliner with it on my legs right now :D).

The fan does run loud when it comes on, but it only comes on under constant cpu use (for me it seems to be about 30% for 5-10 minute which triggers it). If you (re: akwit) are getting constant background cpu usage, go to task manager, the Processes tab, and sort the columns by CPU to see what process is your top consumer. This will help narrow down your troublemaker. Some extensions and plugins in firefox 3 do cause this behavior (since you mentioned firefox), so watch out for that.

Due to the recent news on defective nvidia chips, and my past experience with some problematic drivers with nvidia, I'm just wondering if the problems such as LCD not great enough, problematic trackpads and heat problems are somehow linked to nvidia drivers/gpu?

Not when the people with those issues have Intel IGPs.

Yep, I'm just wondering if there's a pattern between the errors and Intel IGP or Nvidia GPU. So it would be great if we could make an indication of the hardware in the signature or in the post along with the errors.
