Not for me. You will get a Dell approved technician that comes to your place to replace it (if you have Dell's next buisness day on site service). It should be under warranty.
And if he screws up, it's a new system (unless you have it from the outlet). :)

Yes it is. Well it depends, the left one is, but not the right one. I now this because I had changed my palm rest... no not because of a pain problem. the track pad was not working correctly. I still have it, the technician forgot to take it back, and so far Dell did not complain on anything... I still keep it just in case Dell wants it back.

Well, ask for a new display.

Make sure that you have all the OS latest drivers. You should not have any problem. Well I sure don't under Vista 64-bit and Win7 64-bit on my Latitude E6400.

EXCELLENT reply. thank you for that.

i'm a little laptop illiterate, so i might give the on-site a go. i wasn't even aware that dell did upgrades.

the box arrived today, so it might be a little late to get the vista disk, but i do have a 64-bit disk from my desktop. will i lose any useful software with a clean install of vista? or will i be able to use it to upgrade?

i won't be opening / using the laptop until sunday night, so i have time to figure this all out. thanks again!

That's exactly what I did. I contacted Dell, and they have opened a case and put a Case Manager who is going to be contacting me fairly soon. They are guaranteeing that I am going to receive a LG screen or else they have instructed the Dell Technician, who was really nice today, to ship it right back to Dell. The tech was really nice, but it seems that the plastic bezel is really loose now, but before it was really nice and tight. They have also put in a request for a bezel too, so let's just see how this plays out.

Just a question. Did you update to the latest Intel Matrix Storage Device Driver? I know that the latest driver fixed most of the choppy audio problems.

Nothing is too late. You can call now and request Vista 64-bit Dell disk.
I recommend the one from Dell, as the product key on your laptop is different from the one that you have installed. People on this forums said that it's a deactivate one and you will need to call Dell every time you activate. I never tried to confirm this claim, but I trust what was said. The Dell Vista 64-bit disk is pre-activated and well nicer to install. It's also free. I recommend to do this as soon as possible as there are no upgrade path to it. You will need to re-install the system. In the case you don't know, installing Vista (and I can say the same about Win7 RC1) is really easy. All you do is put the disk in, press any key when prompted to do so to boot from disk, and you have a nice interface with mouse with Windows looks, and everything nicely explained. And of course, we are here to help.

primarily, but they also have a few posts with the latest IDT drivers. the ones dell provide should be fine, though. i agree with the poster above who suggested you have an IMSM problem (intel matrix storage manager). that will solve the choppy audio, the audio driver itself is not faulty.
