I flashed it and did a clean install of Vista. Haven't noticed any problems yet but I don't really use DVDs.

I currently have the Intel X25-M in there and it's nice, if I wanted more space, I'd go Vertex. I'd skip the Samsung based on their reluctance for end-users to firmware upgrades and their TRIM support is still up in the air when 7 comes out.

Right now, I'd wait for the new Intel's to come out (which should be any day). Cheaper, bigger, hopefully faster.

    I'm not happy.....

Yesterday, I was preparing my E6400 to be sent in for a warranty issue. The backlit keyboard has gone from dim to completely dark and replacing the keyboard didn't correct the issue. So it's going in for a more extensive fix....but I digress, that's not what I'm ticked off about!

I flipped my E6400 over to remove the hard drive and somehow the lid got a few nasty scratches during the process!?!? It was on a wooden desktop, but I can't figure out what was between the surface of the desk and the lid of my laptop that would scratch it so much? I tried to buff/polish it out with a microfiber cloth, no dice. Any suggestions?

I made it almost eight months without a single scratch or ding, a record for me! But this is like that first gut-wrenching ding you get in a new car...I'm sure I'll get over it and move on...and I'm sure this isn't the last scratch it will be getting....but it's irritating...

Opening the laptop would have not helped you.
The pin of the plug for the keyboard could have been damaged (that means a new motherboard would have been required), or it's a just at a software level. Go in the BIOS and see if you can turn it on there.

We're having a weird problem on the last E6400 we ordered. We usually prepare our laptops with pre-built XP images (with a PE tool) and it used to work well on every machine we have here (2000+ machines/laptops). But since 3 weeks, the new E6400 we got pops BSOD, and we have to restart the PE installation about 6 times before being able to log on the tool (which retrieves the ghost images on a local server). We never changed the configuration but I am pretty sure Dell changed something onboard. I tried to deactivate unused devices in the BIOS (like webcam, sdcard readers, and so on..) but I still get those BSODs. I'm pretty confused since it worked great 3 weeks ago!

    Usual error is STOP: Cx000021b
but I can't manage to find anything related to E6400's config.

Anyone has an idea about this?

Put the BIOS SATA mode to AHCI or switch to IRRT. Your image that you have is for one of the SATA mode, you just need to put the same one.
Also, your running a 2001 OS on a system which XP doesn't like at all... time to upgrade.

Dell's own XP image includes the drivers for the different HDD access modes (as well as the other hardware). See this thread about changing the HDD access mode.

I wouldn't say that XP doesn't like the E6400. It is more a case of the development of this OS not keeping up with the hardware.
