Sorry to drag up an old topic, but I keep getting dpc issues, and have checked it with the dpc latency checker. Every 20 seconds I get 4 or 5 big red bars, and the rest are green. I have done everything in the other thread (the 15 page one about audio problems). Is this what I have to put up with now, or should they be all green?

All should be green, unless if you are under Win7 Rc due to a a lack of official drivers. Of course if you do stuff with your system, as it's a laptop and not a high-end desktop, it's normal that you see some yellow and red pop-up when you, I don't know, start a big heavy application, load a disk... but not when idle.

Ensure that you run Vista (64-bit by preference (although should not be link to your problem), make sure you have the latest BIOS and drivers (all of them). If you have the Nvidia GPU solution, go to Nvidia website to download the latest non-beta version of the drivers.
Make sure that BEFORE you install the new drivers, that you uninstall the old ones and restart the computer. Your problem should be solved.

Just a quick note from my experiences.

When I bought my Dell I had 1ea - 4GB RAM Module, I added an OCZ 2GB module. The 2GB had more aggressive timing (CAS 5, 4GB was CAS 6), however, it would not go to the lower CAS timing and would cause BSOD's when they were both installed together, memtest86+ proved my theory. Both DIMM's together would cause errors, separately installed however they would work fine. Just wanted to document this for others.

    Hello,

Is anybody here using a SSD with the E6400? If so can you recommend one? I was thinking putting in an Intel but in the article here they raise concerns as notebooks not being able to cater full for the SSD so that would be overkill. http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=736&type=expert

    Thanks for the time

Anyone using dual displays using 1 vga and 1 dvi port from the e port plus?

I can get my laptop's screen and one external to work, but not all three, or even the 2 external only. It seems to favor the vga screen and set up the extended desktop for it, but if i unplug the vga screen I can use the dvi (so I know it's not defective). Any ideas?

If you have the Nvidia solution, just look under the Nvidia Control Panel > "Set up multiple displays". You should have all the options that you can do.
I don't have 2 displays to try, but I already made my VGA CRT screen and my laptop screen work together. (I don't have these fancy LCD TV's either, so I can't test)

Ah yeah, I totally forgot about using the Nvidia control panel - I was just using display settings from the desktop menu.

I got both my screens up and running, but it doesn't seem like I can use the laptop's screen as a third... oh well...

Hi Tom, I run a Corsair (Samsung controller) 128GB in the E6400.

Seems to be the best bang for the buck & a good compromise between price, size & speed.

    Hope that helped.

Just noticed that Dell has a new firmware for the "TSST TS-U633A 9.5mm Tray SATA DVDRW" (DW10, A03).
