I didn't know that I8KfanGUI could actually control the fan speed.

Do you still get the throttling problem if you don't have I8KfanGUI running? I'm also running A15 but have not yet seen any throttling. What is your ambient temperature?

Yeah it can control it and you set it up to turn on at certain temps to certain speeds. It used to work, but then like reported in that other thread above, since like A12 or A13 it seems to fight with the bios, the fan will go from fast to slow and fast and slow which I didnt think was too healthy for the system or the fan.

Now I dont quite understand when you refer to the "throttling problem"?

25.6oC is ambient, measured by a thermometer up on the wall inside my office.

This is probably a stupid question, but if I equip my E6400 with a SSD can I still use external normal HDD's??

Sure- you can connect an external HDD via USB/eSATA regardless what type of main drive it has (SSD or HDD).

Also, you can purchase an adapter on Ebay so a 2.5" laptop hard drive can be used as a 2nd hard drive in the E-Modular Bay (optical drive slot). Dell doesn't sell a 2.5" adapter, but there are generic ones on Ebay that work just fine in the E6400. I actually modified one from Lenovo designed for the T400 and it works in my E6400's optical bay!

Take a look at the attached screenshot. As you can plainly see I am not doing anything, literally nothing. And this is undocked, on battery, why does it need the fan blowing full blast?

If someone has a bunch of user pictures of the E6400, or the possibility to take some it would be greatly apriciated!

I've tried looking at videos on youtube but most of them are dark and poor quality, and I googled images but most of them are close-up's which means I cant see the whole thing i perspective to something else.

The reason is that I just want to get a feel of how thick/bulky this computer is before buying. I did see john ratsey's photo of the E6400 next to a 15" and 12" which is pretty good but it just show's it in frontal view

Throttling is when the CPU slows down to a crawl as if its shoe laces were tied together. This can happen if the chipset temperature exceeds an unnecessarily low threshold.

The higher the ambient temperature then the greater the possibility of that chipset temperature being exceeded.

I've got a bunch of E6400 photos but none stacked with other notebooks. The attached, photo, however, shows that the E6400's thickness is about the same a three standard CD cases (this is with the LED backlit display - the CCFL backlight display is slightly thicker). The E6400's thickness does not vary much between front and back.
