Well, if it's any comfort to you, the E6400 with similar specs costs $2335 (CAD) to Canadian customers....which translates to $2145 in US Dollars.....and the majority of Canadians live closer to me (in Georgia) than people who live in California!

    hehe I guess that's always something ;-)

If I buy the dell in the U.S and ship it to Norway, can I send my laptop to the Norwegian Dell Support if anything happens with the laptop? I mean would there be any difference if I bought it here or in the U.S given that I get the 3 years International Service?

I have a Norwegian friend who just moved to Washington D.C so I guess that's a posibility.
I just dont want to ship my computer to the U.S should it break or anything.

The laptop would initially be registered at the U.S. shipping address, but you could submit an Interntional Transfer Form - LINK

you may need to be careful about export concerns, however. when you purchase a dell laptop in the US it asks whether or not you are going to be exporting it. (since i never have been, i always check no, but I am not sure what happens if you check yes.)

For a casing.. I got a thin sleeve with minimum padding, just to not have it all scratch up... I mean it is a 2k system which looks very nice.

The best way to handle this, in my opinion, would be to have the friend order the laptop in his/her name and address in the U.S. That person would order the laptop and state that he/she doesn't intend to export it to another country. (little fib/lie) Then he/she can change his/her mind and decide to give the laptop as a gift to a dear friend in Norway! :p ;)

So does anyone run Xp? I have just updated to BIOS A15 and when trying to run I8kfanGUI it seems to run fine for ~15mins and then everything just grinds to a halt. CPU usage goes wild, and the system becomes basically unusable.

I quick reboot fixes it, and not starting I8kfanGUI means that the problem does not reoccur. But sitting on my desk on the dock the fan sits on full nearly all day and is loud, which I dont believe it needs to be running, hence me running I8kfanGUI to control it.

I did notice that since BIOS A13, that I8kfanGUI seems to have difficulties in maintaining control over the fan speed, but no one else had that issue when I had asked about it here, so just hoped that A14 would fix it, but it had no effect. Where now after A15, I8kfanGUI seems to be totally unuseable at all?

Are there any other fan control apps out there that work with the E6400?

EDIT: After a bit more research here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=348221&page=29
    http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19247293/19391037.aspx?PageIndex=11

It seems that the E-Dock stresses the chipset, and hence generates more heat, coupled with some poorly designed BIOS fan setting = the fan going non stop.
