Thanks. Maybe I should try that. I would definitely not mind a little less fan activity. When I ran McAfee virus check it started the fast fan. and that is noisy!
also just by playing the pre video in Civ4 the fast fan kicked in, and overall, the slow fan runs almost constantly when iddling after a little while. It would be very nice if it did that more rarely!!
The only thing that is peculiar to me is that one of the times when the fast fan kicked in, all max temps (according to HWmonitor) were 49c or lower (don't remember the exact) where you wrote that you were in the 70ties before the fast fan kicked in.

(by the way, when I checked RMclock later it showed 1.1375 at 9x and not 1.2000 as it did the first time. Weird)

New touchpad driver, makes a world of difference. No longer is it necessary to fool around with different settings aside from that speed you prefer.

It's arguably as good as the Synaptics touchpad from my XPS m140 now. And that says a lot, because while it was built like crap, was heavy, and not too pleasing to look at, it had an excellent touchpad.

I'm thinking we should make that like the offical touchpad thread, since all E's use the same drivers.

Can someone comment on these pre-order questions?

    1. E-travel lite module ($15) --> Did Dell ever get it right? I heard that they were shipping ones that didn't fit the optical drive bay.

    2. Extended battery service ($89) --> Is it worth it to buy this instead of getting a new battery down the road ($199)? How does the warranty work?

    3. Roxio DVD software --> Does the Roxio bundle include this?

Has someone tried using this to make home DVD movies, and how does it compare to the Windows Vista DVD Maker found in Vista Premium and Ultimate?

I don't believe it does. However, Windows Movie Maker combined with Windows DVD maker should be sufficient for anyone doing home movies or anything like that.

The Travel lite module most people have been getting the correct one, and if you order by phone, you can likely get it for free.

I didn't go for the battery service myself, because I plan on purchasing new batteries from eBay once mine goes south. Genuine Dell batteries are generally around $60 on eBay.

I got the extended battery warranty but I recently studied the small print and discovered that it covers one replacement only which makes it less attractive.

Well, Dell still hasn't gotten the travel module right with me .

I'm about at the end of my straw, trying to fix a $15 error.

    Otherwise, notebook is fine.

I've just installed them but I have yet to notice the difference.
