Mine is a few mm away from being in completely as well, but it is plenty tight with little to no wiggle. This is in stark contrast to my XPS m140 (which uses the same end on AC adapter) which could fall out at any moment.

Mine sits tight as well (does not seem at risk of falling out), but it can wiggle some

Exactly the same thing here. I didn't notice until this thread made me look. It's probably by design.

Connect your external audio device then go into the Windows volume control, click on the Advanced button then select the PC Spkr mute. You will get all the bass which has been filtered out, presumably to protect the internal speakers which can't handle low frequencies (they can't handle much at all - those big speaker grilles conceal 1/2" tweeters).

Mine also wobbles. No problem provided it continues to pass power. Maybe the socket is slightly loose in the chassis. IIRC, the service manual shows that the socket is not fixed onto a board but has a couple of wires from socket to board, so no chance of breaking the socket off the board.

Useful stuff. Thanks. There are lots of useful settings in there.

The internal speakers are indeed useless. When at home I have a set of Soundsticks (USB) from my Mac that I plug in. MUCH better. :)

I'll give these settings a try on the flight home and see if it helps.

E6400 BIOS A06 has been posted.
I'm off to give it a try.

    John

PS: I'm back, with the BIOS upgraded to A06. Is it a coincidence that the on-screen display for the brightness now isn't working properly? The box is there but the bar showing the brightness level has disappeared.

I was also going to say, even before the latest upgrade, that my LG display doesn't look washed out at full brightness. Is that another unmentioned tweak in one of the BIOS upgrades?

Update: I just installed the latest Win TV driver and software and the brightness OSD is working again. Yesterday I had installed whatever came with my DTV receiver.

A few of us are having this issue. In our case (myself and my co-workers) we seem to think the issue is related to faulty USB drivers. We have hopes that Dell will release new ones at some point in time.

    1. I would try the latest BIOS (A06). The BIOS updates seems to include various unmentioned fixes and might address your problem.

    2. Download and run RMClock and check to see if the CPU is being throttled to 333MHz. I have had that happen. You can use RMClock to set the throtting to 100% which fixes the problem, but does not fix the cause. I have this problem and suspect it is because I sometimes use the 65W PSU, which the BIOS thinks isn't powerful enough to run my computer at full load.
