Thanks, everyone who responded to my question. Based on all your messages, I've decided to keep the E6400. I think I should receive it in a couple of weeks. I'll post back again once I have it. Fingers crossed, I'll get a good one!

Hmm... Maybe I should try to change profile to vistas own balanced profile if there is a chance that this will fix the issue. Because I have no problems with how the fan opperates when on battery. Goes on for 8 or so minutes and stays off for at least twice as long. And as I see it there shouldn't be any reason as to why it cound not behave exactly the same when plugged in.

    Hey there!

Sorry to leave the power discussion, but I have news about the E-travel lite module (piece of plastic that's put in the ODD bay for lighter overall weight).

Well after also getting 2 times a wrong part that was significantly bigger than the bay in which the module goes in, I contacted my seller, after the only thing C.S. could do is send me to parts, which in return assured me the part number was good and send me back to C.S. Well my seller was more useful than cust. serv. and parts all together, immediately issuing a technical escalade :). A very knowledgeable tech call me back the next business day (!) and it took like 5 minutes to find the right one. Looks like one of their manufacture is having a mismatch between the part and its number and is shipping the wrong part. I'll have my hand on the good one (hopefully) tonight and let you know about it.

The lesson here is if C.S. is kind of unhelpful, get back to your sales guy. He'll be more than willing to help. Anyway mine did.

Another observation on C.S. I called 2x in the last months on the "Home" part and I always got very good customer service and very pleasant people to talk to. Looks like it's another story on the "For office" side. They are less than willing to solve things quickly, and they are not very knowledgeable.

For example, for my Inspiron 1525, I ordered it in english by mistake. In 1 wewk I got a new keyboard and a new set of CDs. Dell did not even want the keyboard back. Heck they even sent a desktop keyboard the first time and got to keep it.

For the latitude, I had to return 2x the 15$ piece of plastic before I could do anything else lol.

Don't worry. Usually what you see on forums are the problem. Mine is top notch, very sturdily assembled, with no wiggles at all, anywhere. Everything is surprisingly very solid. TBH I expected much less from Dell. Nothing to do with the Inspiron 1525 I got as a gift to my in-laws.

Something, somewhere has got confused. It is similar to my problem that it always boots up with the CPU throttled even when I am using the 90W PSU. At least I got RMClock to start automatically and disabled that throttling.

Yes it is very weird. I tried Vistas balanced profile, but no difference. I just don't get it

I don't have CPU whine (at least nothing near what I had with my previous Santa Rosa computer).
You can check your bios version when you turn on your computer, it tells you when booting below the Dell logo

I think you are the first to report CPU whine.

Speaking of that, you should hear my P-M XPS m140. It whines louder than the fan.

I haven't knowingly heard the CPU whine to know what it sounds like. I read that someone else got their mainboard replaced because of the whine.

The mainboard page of CPU-Z will give the BIOS version.
