Hi all, I have a big problem which I would like some help on.

About 30 minutes ago, I was playing Call of Duty 4 on my Dell Latitude E6510, then there came a small beep, the screen flickered blue/green/white (hard to explain, kind of like when you get a bad signal on your TV). Then the screen froze, the laptop was still running.

I held the power button, turning the laptop off, then when I tried to turn it on again, there was no response from the laptop.

When I press the On button, it lights up blue for 5 seconds, then goes away again. When I try to charge it with the adapter, the charging light comes on for 3 seconds, then goes away again. Nothing has worked. I've also tried to run the laptop without the battery, just on mains, and there was still the same happening.

If you need extra info, please ask :D.

    Thanks a lot.

It looks like something has died. However, first disconnect the mains power, take out the battery and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds to try to reset the system. Then reconnect the power and see if it starts. The lights that temporarily come on when you try to start may mean something to Dell support but I don't know where they are documented. Do you have the Dell on-site warranty?

    Some things you can try without voiding the warranty;

    - Test AC adapter with multimeter

    - Test with a known good Dell 90 watt AC adapter

    - Remove battery and AC adapter and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

After that your motherboard may have power circuitry issues, as John asked did you have Dell on site or any warranty left?

There's a complication. This laptop is technically the property of the department which my father works for, although there are no restrictions as to what we can do with it. So I'm not really sure.

None of the above work, thanks for the suggestions though :(.

Either contact Dell for service options or hand it back to work and tell 'em it died.

Sounds like a board component busted. No problem, Dell will come (under warranty) and replace the whole internal board, and it will be fully functional in 5-10min total (well the time it takes to switch the main board).

Manufacture errors happens all the time.

Can anybody give me a hint what's wrong here.
As a new owner of E6510 I swapped/cloned original 250Gb HD (not even boot it first time) with Intel 160Gb SSD. I kept Recovery partition in same size 13.67Gb. After SSD boot everything seems to be working perfect. However I start to digging into utilizing more SSD space and see if Restore partition is good for anything. To my surprise I can't find out the way how to restore using "factory.wim" image. Dell's "Backup and Recovery manager" is giving me error "system does not have Windows Recovery Environment" installed", no idea how to install that.
The other option using "tools" and "imagex" from command line doesn't work either, since Recovery doesn't have those two.
I am ready to dump Recovery partition completely, but still I am wondering if there is any way to make it work.
    TIA

Well the laptops pretty new, just got it at Christmas time. Will it cost for the board to be replaced?

Relax... it should be under warranty. Just tell 'em it died and they will fix it. Enter the service tag on Dell.com under Business Support and it should reveal the warranty.

    Dude, don't worry.
It's not your game that broke the system.
Computers have many fail-safe system to prevent over heating and damaging.

It's 100% a manufacture error on some component.. probably a capacitor. All you did, is what is called Stress Test. Meaning pushing the system to 100%, to see if anything breaks or becomes unstable. This is something that EVERYONE should do with a new laptop, as manufactures don't do it. You just did it, without you knowing, when you played your game :)

It's 100% covered under the laptop warranty. That is why we have warranty.
Dell will fix it right away, free of charge.
If you Dell Next Business day on-site service with the warranty, then Dell will come the next day with a new board, replace it in a few minutes, and make sure it works, and leaves.

In computer enthusiasts forums... people who build their own computers, this is very common issue. That is why we all stress test our system for several hours before saying that our computer works perfectly.

The good news, is that the main board failed while you were gaming.. and not during important, unsaved worked.
