    I know there currently is a 6-cell and a 9-cell for the M4400.

However I also remember reading that Dell has a 12-cell out for some notebooks in the new E-series.

Does anyone know whether there is going to be a 12-cell battery that can be used with the M4400?

    Cheers!

The 12-cell is what they call the "battery slice", this doesn't replace the 6 or 9 cell battery, it fits underneath the whole of the laptop so you end up with a total of 18 or 21 cells.

Assuming the M4400 can use the E-port docking stations (which I think they can) then I presume it will take the battery slice too.

Does the battery slice 'act' as a coolslice - but with power?

That explains my battery control panel showing two batteries on the M4400, one active and one inactive.

I thought the inactive one was for an optional battery that would fit in the dvd-slot, but I thought dell didn't do that, so the slice makes better sense.

Looking forward to getting it :)

Here's a picture of the slice on the E6400. It might act as a coolslice since it's quite substantial.

I think Dell decided against trying to squeeze a battery into a 3/8" thick media bay, but if they squeezed 3 cells hard enough then they would probably fit. However, there's only the ODD connector in the bay, so not much chance of Dell deciding to treat us to a little battery although, for many people another 2 - 3 hours would be all we need.

Thanks for the pic, doesn't look to bad considering the autonomy you get with it!

Dell doesn't list it in the UK however, nor do they ship it here from the US.

I'll call them tomorrow to double-check if I can get it in the UK :)

There's a lot that is not offered on the UK on-line configuration. for the E6400 the backlit keyboard and 65W PSU used to be listed but disappeared.

You can also usually get a better deal by phoning.

I called them today, and got referred to a company which sources parts that are not normally sold in the UK market.

The battery could be ordered, but because it was only a single item and not a bulk order, it'd cost 290£, which is a bit less than twice the price in the US.

I want it, but not that bad :/

just a question, i'm just throwing up which would you go for...i'm looking at getting either a spare 9cell battery or a 12cell battery... the thing is that i have a docking station and in order to fit it into the docking station, i have to take off the 12cell one (if i get it that is...) i got a 9cell battery on offer to me for $140 and a 12cell for $199...im thinking about the 12cell as more band for your buck... what do you guys reckon? i'd appreciated some advice..
