Repair is a tricky issue because the diagnostic tools aren't that good. That's a business decision. But, if the tools don't help, the only recourse is to replace parts. They could have run the diagnostics, replaced all the electronics and cable assemblies, and shipped it back in the first week.

P.S. Pls stop accepting sub-par warranty performance so the rest of us aren't expected to as well.

maybe i dint make it clear enough-they did replace all the electronics, THREE times within 1 week, onsite-that is quick service.

i myself fail to see how it could have fixed the issue, and they were puzzled too. hence the request to capture the system.

edit: the parts replaced included the cables as well, basically every part that could have caused the issue was replaced.

just got an update from the guy at dell, he said the replacement will be the equivalent precision and he'll be sending me the specs later. i suppose that is somewhat of a relief

lol didn't he say he'd be sending specs later a few days ago? I mean an M4500 would be an equivalent replacement, but the FHD screen results in a loss of 120 vertical pixels. I wasn't aware they still had M4400's new unless you were getting a refurbished one....ask for an M6500!

that was on friday, they dont work weekends! he said he'll update me on monday, which he did. from what he said it sounds like its going to be an m4600 as he said that its going to be a brand new order from the factory, not refurbished.

if they offer an M4500 i'll refuse it (but i think its unlikely they're accepting orders for it now). he said if i want they can try replacing more parts on my m4400 and send it back if i prefer not to swap. the marginal performance gain on the m4500 isnt worth the move to 16:9 so if they offer that i'll ask for my m4400 back.

I will be surprised if they give afhstingray that screen as a replacement for a ccfl, WUXGA or not, I'm sure the standard 1080 screen would have better quality, contrast, colours.....just missing 120 vertical lines :)

yea i would be surprised too. but then again, the only full HD screen on the dell uk website is the IPS one, so fingers crossed. still waiting for him to send the specs, he said there was something wrong with the system today.
either way i'm probably going to sell it immediately. dell's are cheaper in malaysia and i'll be in malaysia in a month's time. i can re-buy one there with quadcore and IPS.

16:10 screen will certainly be missed....and i'll have to ebay all the extras i have, i have 2 spare keyboards, 2 chargers, and an extra battery that hasnt been used much.

btw is there any improvement in battery life on the M4500?
