But Weegie stuck with the older BIOS versions, right? Proves the point the whole issue was introduced with the A06 update.

Does ANYone experience even when running A03 or A02...or other incompatibility issues of some sort because of running older BIOS's?

When I was deciding which model laptop to get I came upon I_RAM's review of the M4400 and then I came upon your review. I based my purchase mostly on your experiences, so, yeah, I have been counting on you for more than you can imagine.

I do mostly video editing in Premiere and a lot of Photoshop. I just wanted something that ran as well as a good desktop. I almost opted for the new Macbook pro but I just couldn't get my head around spending that much money for something that, while very high quality, I would throw in my backpack and take on planes and trains.

Well if you don't need the MBP for Final Cut pro and are fine using Premiere you would be nuts (IMHO) to get a macbook pro....get it all maxed out and it's not quite near the m4400 or other true workstations

I do actually have a macbook for Final Cut but not eager to spend that amount for a new one..for everything else i now use the m4400. MBP = gadget and sadly becoming more n more so :( It used to be for professional but now more aimed at hipsters and fashionistas, trying to set themselves apart and becoming a mass because of it...lol...ironic ;)

rant over....glad we've been of help!

Dell tech just changed fan, heatsink and some thermal paste. I will update you, but i already noticed a drop in temps when idle.

Mind telling us why did this? Did you complain about overheating?

i complained how much i felt scammed for paying for something that doesnt work properly, seemed to do the trick. I got warranty 3 years just not complete care. I did this so that hopefully this machine works flawlessly one day, i played company of heroes online yesterday, a 4v4 map, and it never downclocked in like 60 minutes.

I think it caps at 85c now, i just played this morning again and while it goes up to 85c fast it seems to stay there and i have not noticed a single downclock since the tech changed thermal paste/heatsink and fan.

I will continue on testing other games to see if the problem is 100% resolved, it seems to be atm, but lets not jump to conclusions too fast.

I just opened up my fan, washed it, applied new grease and it runs smooth as butter now. I cant change my heatsinks, and would prefer not to work w/ Dell technicians ever again. I am very interested in changing my CPU & GPU thermal paste with AS5 I believe it's called. Hopefully it'll help.

I will order AS5 from amazon.com right now and update when I get it. I'm a little worried about voiding my warranty though...

Well....if i do ever get problems with the GPU and they even notice the AS5 i'll just say i never touched it i guess, play stupid ;)
I know that's kind cheating Dell but i don't think warranty should be voided by applying a better thermal solution to fix something they haven't done optimally in the first place, and i know what i'm doing.

Hi guys, please, I need an advise. When I play Counter-Strike Source (HL2 engine) in maximum details, resolution 1900x1200, 16x aa, 16x af, i usually get 60-70fps. However after few minutes, fps drop to 10-20fps. CPU temp is around 50 degrees, GPU temp 80 degrees. I expected, that the decrease in performance is caused by downclocking of GPU. BUT: not gpu, but CPU decreases from 2530GHz to only 799 Ghz. GPU is still normal. My friend on another PC gets the same problem. So i expect, it is something with bios, drivers or Vista. How is it possible that overheating of GPU causes downclocking of CPU? Does anyone have the same problem? Please help.
