That seems a bit weird indeed...your temps don't seem that high at all, not too cause downclocking anyway. You have an M4400? And what type of PC does your friend have?

The CPU makes more sense than the GPU...I never did buy the GPU downclocking theorems.....Somethings going on there that can be corrected....have your tried RMClock to set your own speed steps? Don't even know if it's compatible....I'll do some research of my own....let us know.

EDIT: I don't have that behavior btw, I'm on BIOS A11....what happens when you turn down the AA etc?

firstly, DONT cross post, its against the forum rules.

i had the same issue on my old m4400, downgrading to bios A03 solved the problem. i havent tried gaming on my new m4400 yet, which has the latest bios. hopefully this isnt a hardware problem but a bios issue

i think i mentioned this before?

I use RMclock on a 64 bit vista system. I just wanted to let you know it is compatible. You have to use the digitally signed driver tho. There is a link for it in the Undervolting guide on this forum.

Thanks...I've used RMClock a lot on other laptops. I've always seen it as a win win situation.

To the HL2 player: 16AA?? Jeezus man....this is only a 9600GT card. HL doesn't take that much, but it pretty much should settle in to what it can handle if the CPU isn't dropping down for some weird reason.

Yeah, I love RMclock. I think all laptops should have it installed. It does so much to everything from battery life to performance to laptop life.

On another note, we may be on to something. I bought the gpu overheating as the cause for the downclock, but if it's only some kind of power management issue (by issue I mean BUG) in the Bios then there is hope for a fix without a hardware revision.

    This is good news.

It would be so funny if Bios A13 is the fixall bios we have all been waiting for. C'mon lucky 13!!!! Bah, we'll see. First lets hope for a worthy version 12:D

yes, I own M4400. My friend older ASUS. however same problems

when I turn off AA, there are less performance issues. But I have bought strong pc for good performance, not to play without AA

    My bios is A11

Yes HL2 engine is nice on 16x AA. This card is capable to make it on 70 fps. It changes after few minutes however, when temp rises and fan gets loud

Get BIOS A02 or A03 here
    http://ftp1.us.dell.com/bios/

install these and tell us the results...what do you use to check your GPU temp? Get HWmonitor (free download) to be sure your temp readings are correct

I'm calling Dell in hopes to make someone aware that they goofed something up when they passed bios a2/3. Hopefully the new bios contains all the fixes + the temp/fan/clocking issues.

Please call aswell so we can get some traction!

We've been trying for months mate but be my guest ;)
You have to know that quite a number of people here, including me, were early adaptors of this lappy when it came out and been through all this time and time again already. I'm sure Dell could be able to fix it at some point but i'm not holding my breath. I just know i found ways to fix all th issues i have and i'm running care-free at this point so i'll just see what they bring next.
