    i'm very interesting too !
i forcast to purchase the same hardware than you.
Even i i don't plan to game like you, i will do some big time render process (12hours of 95% cpu usage).

do you know how am i feel now by read your message ?

Well, don't panic yet - there is always a chance I have a bad unit. Dell is replacing it, to their credit. I will be sure to update this thread when I get it.

The 770M apparently does not have the well known Nvidia GPU problem. Or does it?

I don't think it has the well-known issue.

I ran the tests again and 98 degrees C is the cutoff at which it is too hot and downclocks. The CPU stays fairly consistent temp wise around 65-70 degrees.

At idle, the CPU is around 40 and the GPU is around 55.

I have noticed the fan is still running at 100% even though its all cooled off.

I really hope this is a bad unit and the new one is better; this really is nice computer in all other aspects.

    No.

Seems the GPU temp problem is directly related to the heat output from the cpu to me,my temps playing Crysis WH last night for a couple of hours equaled 80degC for the GPU and 48 degC for the cpu maximum, this was with a very low ambient temp of 13 degC though.....highest I've seen is 87 degC on the GPU,but I may have been accidently covering the fan vent like I'm always doing.

I still maintain that having the cpu heatsink radiator in front of the GPU HS radiator is a dumb idea, especially if you have a hot extreme cpu.....they should have made them side by side and thicker so they both get cool air,not the way they are which is effectively a hair dryer trying to cool the GPU.

Still I hope they send you one with something different,98 degC and downclocking is totally unacceptable.

On a side note about the M6400,that power supply looks the same as the M1730,which is huge, along with huge stiff cables, and was the defining factor in selling the one I had........honestly,the notebook size didn't bother me but the power supply and cables were a serious PITA.

Your idle temp is similar to mine on the GPU,and cpu is about 10 deg higher.

Are the idle wattages the same for extreme and non extreme?

Strange how your fan keeps going full steam after everything is cooled, almost like its in some sort of panick mode because of the temps its been at.

as you have an extreme CPU X9100, did oyo overclock it for playing to this game ?

if yes, did you try without overclocking it ?

I do have the x9100 but I did not overclock it at all.

So far...not at all. It's much better than the 8400/8600 cards in terms of performance and heat.

OK, I've been trying the undervolting. I undervolted my x9100 .100v down, as per the guide in the Hardware forum, and so far, in indentical testing as I did above that got to 98 degrees and downclocked; I have not gone above 94, with it seeming to hold steady at 93. Still hot, still running FurMark, but so far, no downclocking yet either.

Maybe that means Dell could fix permanently with a BIOS fix.

Update: Ran FurMark for one hour - peaked at 94. No downclocking.
