M4400 Downclocks :(

    Is the undervolting accomplished with Windows-based software? I'm asking because I plan to use an M4400 running Linux only. Is there a BIOS menu that allows you to change voltages and/or clock speeds? Could you overclock the X9100 if you so chose?

    Yeah, its using RMClock in Windows. I don't know if there is a Linux alternative. The Extreme CPUs are supposed to be overclockable, but there is no option for it in the BIOS of the M4400, so I'm not sure how to do it.

    Well, bad news - I thought that undervolting would help things, but even with the x9100 undervolted, Crysis overheated the GPU after 20 minutes.

    It seems the X9100 and the 770M are a bad combo.

    Hoping the new one they send is better; if not, they both go back :(

    It will be worse with X9300, 1700M, and 8GB RAM.

    How loud is the fan when it overheats?

    It will be worse unless they put a better fan in there. The fan noise is the same on my current system whether its idle or overheating; it seems to run at 100% all of the time.

    The good (or perhaps bad?) news is that the fan is very quiet; I cannot hear it.

    A03 does not give me this problem

    A06 sure does though, the same exact problem you described, gpu downclock and fan goes full speed and never stops.


    A03 has great performance here and no downclock, i have just done a long session and had no problem, it ususally downclocks quickly in a06.

    A03 has also no problem with fan, it slows down after extensive sessions.

    Hopefully a03 fixes it for you, it works here , i reported this to dell techs and hope they fix this in next bios.

    oh and first post, this forum helped me, so i give back now. M4400 incredible machine, fx 770m does very good gaming in a03 in my case.
